EVELYN NEULS (nee IRONSIDE) It is with immense sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at the age of 93 years. Remaining, forever to cherish Mom's memory, are her children, Dale (Diane) and Karen Macauley (Bill); her grandchildren, who loved Nanny very much, Jamie Neuls (Melissa), Jeff Neuls (Michelle), Shaun Macauley (Lee), Eireann Macauley (Mark Couke) and Dale Lutz (Sarah Osborn), and great-grandchildren, Bailey, Brandon, Saydee and Haylee. She is also survived by extended family Nell Macauley, Betty Lutz and Archer and Chris Jackson. Mom will also be missed by nieces and nephews throughout Canada and the United States. She was predeceased by her husband, Albert in 2009; parents, James and Alice Ironside, and by her siblings, Raymond, Jack, Mack, Verna, Agnes, Edna, Alice and Myrtle. Mom was born on June 22, 1921 in Welwyn, Saskatchewan, the youngest of nine children. She enjoyed sharing her life experiences of growing up on the farm. Family and music were an important part of Mom's early years and it was during this time that she learned to play the piano, banjo and guitar. At a young age, she played for dances in the surrounding communities. She graduated from high school and at the age of 17 moved to Winnipeg and enrolled in hairdressing school. Upon graduation she opened "Evelyn's Beauty Salon" in Russell, MB and worked there for several years. It was during this time that she met Dad and they were married July 6, 1946 in Windsor, Ontario. After a year, Mom and Dad moved back to Manitoba and settled in Winnipeg where as a homemaker she raised our family. Throughout the years, our home was always a gathering place and welcomed many visits by family members from out of town. Mom led an active life, especially enjoyed curling and was a long-time member of the Civic Caledonian Curling Club. Summers were spent with family at the Ironside homestead, fondly known as the farm. These were special times and always included music, dancing, great food, cards and an occasional game of baseball or hide and seek. The greatest joy in Mom's life was her family. Mom loved us all dearly and cherished the time that we spent together. We will especially remember our family gatherings which always ended with Mom playing the piano - surrounded by friends and relatives singing carols and all the old songs. We will miss and love her forever and feel blessed to have had her as our Mother. She will be remembered for her commitment to family, keen sense of humour, honesty and consideration for others. These qualities live on in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A celebration of Mom's life will take place this summer in Welwyn with interment in the family plot in Welwyn Cemetery. She will rest in peace at "home" surrounded by her family. Our family would like to thank the caring staff on Level 2 at Misericordia Place. In lieu of flowers, a donation in memory of Mom may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, D'Arcy's ARC (Animal Rescue Centre) or Alzheimer Society of Manitoba. Mom and I were reminiscing about how much Dad liked your Mom and looked up to her. We had many good times when you kids, your Mom, and your uncles Jack and Raymond came to the James farm during your summer holidays for a visit. We lost Dad (Fred) on Apr. 30, 2015. We extend our sincere sympathy on the loss of your Mom. Sincerely, Ferne James & children Marney, Marilyn, Bill, and Joan. - Posted by: Marney Bangsund (Friend) on: Jul 13, 2015
