WALTER LEONARD STASKA With heartfelt sadness our family announces the peaceful passing of Walter Staska, with his family by his side, on June 15, 2015 Loving memories will be cherished by his wife of 67 years, Millie, his daughters Pat (Dave), Betty (Al), Linda (Robin), Lorna (Terry), Sandy (Tony) and Angie, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and sisters-in-law Tena Staska, Francis Staska, and Ethel Godoski. Walter was predeceased by his twin daughters Eleanor and Mary, parents Antonia and Frank, brothers Joe (Mary), Frank and Charlie. Walter was born on November 5, 1927 in Ladywood, Manitoba. He moved to Winnipeg at a young age and was employed at Burns Foods for 48 years. Walter enjoyed camping with his family, fishing, and tinkering on cars. As an avid whist card player, Dad often had a trick up his sleeve. More recently, Dad enjoyed his dates with Mom, going out to dinner and playing at the casino. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. Special thanks to the staff at the Seven Oaks Hospital for their compassion and care, especially Trinity, Alix and Dr. Pate. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. A funeral and celebration of Walter's life will be held on Saturday, June 20, 10:00 a.m., at the St. Alphonsus Church, 315 Munroe Avenue, Winnipeg.

  • We had the privilege of knowing Walter since our son Anthony married Sandy over twenty years ago. He always presented himself to us as being a deeply caring man, with a warm and welcoming personality, which reflected in the unity and warmth of his large loving family, which he and his wife Milly spent their years together nurturing. Our prayers are with you now, as we know that he is sadly missed.   • We had the privilege of knowing Walter since Sandy and Anthony's marriage, and he always presented himself to us as being a man who cared deeply for others. He was ever cordial and welcoming, greeting all with a smile, this warmth reflects throughout the family which he and his beloved wife Milly have spent their years together nurturing.
