Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTHEODORA (DORIS) GILLIS (nee SUEK) August 1, 1927 June 16, 2015 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, amma, and great-grandmother on June 16, 2015 at the age of 87. Doris was born on August 1, 1927 in Muenster, Saskatchewan to Tony and Mary (Kuemper) Suek. She had three brothers, Edward, John, and Frank, and three sisters, Margaret, Veronica, and Julie (Jacine). She grew up on the family farm where she learned to work hard and have fun. At 16 years old, Doris went to work in Wynyard, Saskatchewan where she met her future husband, Ben. They were married in 1946 and farmed in the area until moving their family to Winnipeg in 1960. They eventually settled in the King's Park area of Fort Richmond where they continued raising their family and made lifelong friends. Doris worked in Food Services at the University of Manitoba for many years until her retirement at age 63. She was a hard-worker and enjoyed the relationships she built with the other staff and students. Following Ben's death in 2003, Doris relocated to a condominium on St. Anne's Road and finally to Dakota House. Doris cherished the many friends that she made at Dakota House, especially her friends at the "fun table". She was always thrilled to get a visit from a friend or family member and enjoyed watching sports on television, reading, knitting, singing in the choir, Wii bowling, and Bingo. Doris was predeceased by her husband Ben, father Anton (Tony), mother Mary, and siblings, John, Margaret, Edward, and Veronica. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Joe (Carole), Helgi, Beverley, Lynn (Jane), Grace (Greg); grandchildren, Rich (Darcee), Jamie, Tim (Diana), Vanessa (Jason), Connor, and Robyn; great-grandchildren, Camryn, Erik, Brandon and Sarah; siblings, Frank and Jacine (Ron); sister-in-law Dee Dee; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. A memorial service and celebration of Doris' life will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at The United Church in Meadowood, 1111 Dakota Street. Cremation has taken place and there will be a private family interment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the registered charity, Manitoba Cerebral Palsy Sports Association, 145 Pacific Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3B 2Z6. Though we are much younger than Dora, we often recall her quick trips out to this area and her visits with as many relatives as was possible while out this way. We thoroughly enjoyed her visits. Remembering her stories and her laughter. Her beautiful twinkling eyes! So sorry to hear of her passing. But we know that now she too has experienced Jesus' Divine Mercy, and will now live in the contemplation of His love for all eternity! With love, loving thoughts, and prayers; our deepest sympathy on your loss of such a great lady. Rose - Posted by: Rose and Ron Muggli (Sask. cousins) on: Jul 03, 2015
