KINUE (KAY) KONDO (nee SAWA) October 2, 1920 - June 19, 2015 With great sorrow, we announce the passing of Kinue (Kay) Kondo at Simkin Centre on June 19, 2015. Kay was predeceased by her husband, Hisao (George); daughter, Esther; sister, Fumiko; and brother, Teruo. She will be lovingly remembered and missed by her daughters: Judy (John), Shirley (Gord) and Brenda (Howard); nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and nephews and nieces. Kay was born in 1920 in Vancouver, BC to Torakichi and Sute Sawa. She married George on January 18, 1942 in Vancouver. In 1943, the couple settled in Sheridan, Ontario and then relocated to Winnipeg in 1944. Kay was foremost a homemaker and mother. Her love for her family was very evident as we were her greatest joy. She was always willing to lend a helping hand. She took absolute delight in loving her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was kind, gracious, courageous, hardworking, trustworthy, compassionate, humble, and considerate. She forever worried about everyone's safety and well being. Owing to Kay, our home was always immaculate, affairs were well managed and organized and most of us never stepped out of line. Kay loved crafts and to knit, cook, crochet, sew and read. We daughters benefited by her sewing skills as we always had a collection of beautiful dresses. Kay also enjoyed bowling with our dad for many years in the Issei Bowling League. They had a wide circle of friends with whom they loved to socialize and travel. Kay was a fabulous cook and often invited friends for dinner. We were also blessed to enjoy many regular family outings to the beach and park - always prepared with mom's delicious food. Mom was an active member of the Manitoba Buddhist Temple and served as Treasurer of Fujinkai. She was a member of Hoyukai for many years. The family are truly grateful to the entire staff of Simkin Centre 1 North for their exemplary care, compassion and kindness extended to mom over the past 2 and one half years. To Donna Nishimura and the Sawa Family we are indebted to you for your kindness, generosity and thoughtfulness bestowed upon our parents throughout their lives. A private family funeral service will be held at a later date. Donations in mom's memory may be made to the Manitoba Buddhist Temple, 39 Tecumseh Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0J8. • My memories as a child are filled with warm and gracious times of Christmas at the Kondo home. Your Mother and Father had always been so welcoming every time I had seen them. - Posted by: Jim Omori (Friend) on: Jun 28, 2015
