HELENA SCHULZ (nee WARKENTIN) Helena Schulz passed away peacefully on June 25, 2015 at Morris General Hospital at the age of 94 years. Mom is survived by her husband William W. Schulz; two daughters and one son; Ruth, John (Katharine), Marlene (Nick); three grandchildren; Garrett, Katarina and Kendra, and her sister Nettie. She was predeceased by her brothers Diedrich and Henry. Mom was born in Russia and immigrated to Canada with her family in 1926. She grew up on farms across Southern Manitoba and worked at various jobs to help support her family. She moved to Winnipeg in the late 1940 where she worked in a household until 1961 when she married our devoted Dad. She brought her meticulous homemaking skills to the farm. Mom was a sweet and caring person devoted to her family and her Christian faith. On the farm she took great care of a large garden and farm yard along with helping Dad with farming, all the while baking and canning, raising a family at an age where most are slowing down, volunteering with the Lichtenau church ladies group and always making items for others. She loved to re-purpose old clothing into colourful patchwork quilts and with her sewing machine she created items that we will continue to treasure. In 1997 our parents moved into Morris, where she settled into a smaller garden and a less hectic life style than when on a farm. Until her health intervened in her early 80s, Mom enjoyed volunteering at the Morris MCC store. She continued to craft handmade crocheted blankets to donate and share until her most recent hospitalization. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Morris Fellowship Chapel, 223 Mary Street in Morris Manitoba with interment to follow at the Lichtenau cemetery. The family wishes to thank staff at the Morris General Hospital and all of Mom and Dad's community and church friends for their support and care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the CNIB. Rest in peace Mom

We learned to love and appreciate Helen during our brief visits at family functions. She was a very conscientious lady in every task she undertook, doing it to the best of her ability. She will be missed by all, may the memories of her sustain and comfort us in the days to come. - Posted by: Mary Thiessen (Cousin) on: Jun 29, 2015

Thank-you for this very fitting tribute to a great lady. "kindness and caring, meticulous homemaking skills, devoted to her family and her faith..." are memories I share. I applaud her memory as a giant of womanhood and a role model in my life. My own personal favourites: -- as a new graduate nurse working in the Morris Hospital when John was born. -- as I embraced marriage and motherhood I can recall thinking thinking specifically of her doing so "at an age when most are slowing down". --the needle point treasure Aunt Helen created for me on the occasion of my 25th Wedding Anniversary, "Give us This Day Our Daily Bread" will have special meaning as I place it in my newly renovated kitchen. Love to all. - Posted by: Rosemarie Norris (niece) on: Jun 29, 2015
