Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJEAN GIBB (nee BROWNSDON) January 13, 1929 - June 27, 2015 Peacefully, after a brief illness, Jean passed away at St. Boniface General Hospital on Saturday, June 27, 2015. She is survived by her loving partner of thirteen years, Herb Jackson and his daughter Lia (Graham) and family, her children Stewart (Nancy), Douglas (May), and Janet (Douglas), grandchildren Duncan, Craig (Graeme), Emily (Glenn), and Keanan, sister-in-law Lois Brownsdon and family, nieces Catherine and Jennifer and their families, many friends, especially those from "Club", former daughters-in-law Margaret (Sanford) and Leslie. She was predeceased by her parents, Leo and May Brownsdon, her brother David Brownsdon, and her husband Andrew Gibb. Jean was born on January 13, 1929 in Maryfield, Saskatchewan to Leo and May (Rooke) Brownsdon and spent her early years on a farm near Fairlight, Saskatchewan. In 1941 she moved with her family to East Kildonan. She married Andrew Gibb in 1952 and they resided in East Kildonan until a growing family prompted a move to Windsor Park, where she would stay for almost forty years. Jean's early education took place in one-room schools in Saskatchewan before she attended junior and high school in East Kildonan. After her children were all in school, she once again returned to school, attending the Faculty of Education for one year in 1969 and later earning her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Manitoba in 1978. She taught at Lord Selkirk School in Winnipeg School Division. After teaching, she went on to work at Radio Oil and then spent several years at Ogilvie Flour Mills. After Ogilvie closed, she spent many fulfilling years as a secretary at the University of Manitoba, retiring from that job in 1994. After her husband Andy passed away, she was fortunate to meet Herb Jackson. She was grateful for the many happy years they were able to share. Together, they enjoyed many rounds of golf at Niakwa Country Club, travelled frequently, and spent winters in Palm Springs. Jean was an active member of Windsor Park United Church, having served on most committees and councils of the church. She was Chairperson of the Official Board for two years, then secretary to the Official Board for many years. She had a life long love of music, participating in church choirs, the Good Companions Choir, and was a past member of the Senior Citizens' Choir of Winnipeg. Jean volunteered delivering Meals on Wheels in its early years, and spent ten years as a volunteer driver for Boni-Vital Driving Assistance Program. She held season tickets to the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre, Symphony Pops concerts, and Prairie Theatre Exchange. She also enjoyed spending time at the family cottage on Locke Bay, forging lasting memories with family and friends. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of 5A at St. Boniface General Hospital for their professional care and compassion. Cremation has taken place. As per her request, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Windsor Park United Church or to a charity of your choice. Family and friends will miss this fiery dynamo.

So sorry to hear of Jean's death. I worked with Jean on committees at Windsor Park United and often sat beside her in the choir. I enjoyed her 'take it or leave it' honest comments on anything and everything. May she rest in peace. Her lovely family are in my thoughts and prayers. - Posted by: joan rusnak (friend) on: Jul 01, 2015
