DONALD MERRELL 1943 - 2015 Following a lengthy and courageous battle against prostate cancer, Don passed away at Irene Thomas Hospice on June 22, 2015 with his beloved wife and best friend Lovette at his side. Don was predeceased by his parents Floyd and Sadie Merrell, his brother Gerry and his sisters Marlene and Elaine. In addition to his wife Lovette, he is survived by his brothers Lyle and Barry, his brother-in-law Welton, his sisters-in-law Sally, Frances, Anita and Judy, his children and grandchildren: Chris (Bridget, Griffin, Candace), Kim (Brianna, Ryan), Grant (Abby Zachary, Maya), Scott (Billie) as well as many cousins, nephews and nieces. Don received his early education in Winnipeg and then completed his CGA in Vancouver. He enjoyed a long and varied career in the airline/hospitality industry, visiting many towns and cities in North America as well as other international capitals. Known for his quick wit, sense of humour and his ability to put anyone of any age at ease, Don delighted in sharing his love of good food and his favourite music with his multi-generational family and his many dear friends and neighbours. An avid sports fan who had enjoyed playing hockey, tennis and golf over the years, Don was an extremely ardent supporter of the Vancouver Canucks and the BC Lions. However, if they ever disappointed, he would always cheer on the Winnipeg Jets and Blue Bombers. Don was keenly aware of the tremendous benefits he had received because of important advances in prostate cancer treatment that were part of the overall extraordinary care and attention he received throughout his long illness. The family wishes to express their deep appreciation and acknowledge in particular: Dr. Kenneth Poon, Dr. Horst Hollinger, Dr. Graeme Duncan and Dr. Kim Chi and their entire teams at the Vancouver Cancer Clinic. In Don's memory, we would appreciate you considering a donation to Prostate Cancer Canada at www.prostatecancer.ca or a charity of your choice. In accordance with Don's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no formal Service. On-line condolences may be placed at www.remembering.ca Delta Funeral Home (604) 946-6040
