JOHN LUCIEN LINDENBACH
Born: Jul 27, 1947
Date of Passing: Jul 01, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN LUCIEN LINDENBACH July 27, 1947 (Regina, SK) - July 1, 2015 (Calgary, AB) With peace and happiness from a life well-lived, we share sad news of the passing of John Lindenbach in his back yard on a beautiful summer afternoon. John was an extraordinary figure in many peoples' lives. An unconditionally kind, caring and genuine man who led by example, he would never think to describe himself with words used by those who knew him: a special person, a role model, a great guy. John was the first son of Ed and Helene Lindenbach, and sibling of Barbara, Jamie, and Patrick. He lived in Winnipeg from age eight to mid-twenties, where he met and married his wife Nicole Dubuc. Together they raised a daughter Jorin and two sons, Brady and Edan. His nearly 35-year career in various downstream leadership positions with Gulf Oil and Petro-Canada took them to Calgary, Winnipeg, Toronto, and finally back to Calgary in 1980. John loved the outdoors and open spaces of the West, sharing many memorable days of camping, hiking, skiing, fishing and hunting with his family and friends. He would refer to himself as "an old prairie sodbuster", having spent many summers growing up on the family farm in Saskatchewan, one of his favourite places. After his beloved wife and family, most special to John were his grandchildren, Zoƫ, Myles, Brett, Max and Cohen. Many discoveries were made together on long walks through Fish Creek Park with John and his dogs, Packer and then Dude. Important treasures were built and painted in his workshop, then after lunch and a nap, many afternoons were spent tending the vegetable garden. To his grandkids, Papa John was larger than life. A selfless man who wanted nothing more than for those he cared for to work hard, enjoy life, and to do good unto others, John is dearly missed. A celebration of his life will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 10, 2015 at McInnis and Holloway, 14441 Bannister Rd., S.E., Calgary, AB. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Rotary Club of Calgary, where John was a passionate volunteer with the Stay in School program. Donations may be made by cheque payable to The Rotary Club of Calgary 300, 105 - 12 Avenue SE, Calgary, AB T2G 1A1 (in the memo line note Stay In School program), or credit card by calling the office at 403-398-9969. John was a classmate in Grade 9D, at St.Paul's High School on the then downtown campus. and designated the brain room. Fr. Murray SJ taught us English. Sorry to see one of my contemporaries go so soon. A claim to fame would be it was also the room that had in it Angus Reid of pollster renown. I went onto Kelvin, and the high school went onto the new campus in Tuxedo. Rest in peace John. You made exemptions. - Posted by: Jerry Dykman (Classmate St.Paul's High School 1961-62) on: Oct 03, 2015

I met John in the summer of 1970 working for Gulf Canada at 882 St. James Street in Winnipeg, and then later became his neighbor at Imperial Place apartments. John was someone special. He was a leader, a professional, and the person you would always wish to aspire to become like. He was a classy guy with a great sense of humour, always puffing on that pipe! Our careers cris-crossed for over the next 21 years, and even after leaving Petro-Canada, I often thought and remembered John and our times together. Who else would have swooped up a company car to be a muscle car (1972 dodge). Who else enjoyed fishing in the Waterhen more than John. Sorry to hear of your passing......with sincere admiration of a life well lived. - Posted by: Larry Maydonik (co-worker) on: Jul 07, 2015

I adored John. The description of him is bang on. He was so much fun, kind and an all round great guy. My huge regret is that I did not stay in touch. My thoughts are with you all. Love Nancy Flintoft - Posted by: Nancy Flintoft (Friend) on: Jul 07, 2015
