One of my proudest moments in sports was when Wilf "Hook" Last made me Captain of his hockey team, "The Hooks". I remained a member of "The Hooks" for over 30 years and I'm looking forward to reaching #40. However, things will never be the same without our "Coach". On behalf of the entire "Hooks" organization, condolences to Wilfred's family. He will be sorely missed, but remain forever in our hearts and happy memories. - Posted by: Josh Marantz (Longtime friend and team mate.) on: Jul 13, 2015

Hook Last was a character the likes of which we'll never see again and such is the pity. Always jovial and easy to get along with, he liked to entertain. Who could forget his trumpet rendition of The Saints on the bus bound for yet another hockey tournament? And the flair with which he, as goalie, would catch those slap shots? He taught me and many other rookies how to shoot the gun. It was a pleasure to learn from one who was ranked third in the world. Until a few years ago, I would occasionally bump into him on Marion St. He would immediately start to whistle Tiptoe Through The Tulips which we would whistle together in the cruiser car over 45 years ago to keep awake on the graveyard shift. I didn't know that he was at the Fred Douglas Lodge or I would have visited him. Rest in Peace Hook, you were a good friend. - Posted by: Denis Robert (Friend, Police partner) on: Jul 12, 2015

Our deepest sympathy to the family for your loss. It was a real pleasure working with Hook at the St. Boniface Police Department and hearing one of his favourite sayings: "My name might be Last but I'm always first". - Posted by: Andy and Gisele Mestdagh (co-worker) on: Jul 11, 2015
