JEANNE MARIE-ANTOINETTE SAVAGE (nee CHAVANNE) August 26, 1919 - July 8, 2015 With broken hearts, Jeanne's loving family said goodbye to her in the early morning of July 8, 2015. She fought hard to stay with them, just a month shy of her 96th birthday. Jeanne's love of life, family and laughter will be remembered. Her husband Ted predeceased her in 1993, her daughter-in-law Dorothy in 2012, and her lifelong friend Patricia Desjardins in January 2015. She left a legacy of five children and their spouses, 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, along with numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, who mourn her passing. Jeanne grew up in St. Boniface to French parents and lived her married life next door to her parents or across the street from them. She went to Normal School and taught in Marchand before becoming a radio operator during the Second World War. She was very happily married to Ted for 48 years. Their marriage was a beautiful love story in which they travelled, danced and golfed together. They had a wide circle of friends. Jeanne was devastated when Ted died. She began volunteering at the St. Boniface Hospital and took every opportunity to be with her family. She maintained her beautiful yard all by herself, until into her mid 80s. That is when she declared she was retiring! At the age of 92, she regretfully could no longer live in her home alone and she became a resident of Action Marguerite St. Vital. Her large family thanks all who visited Jeanne during her stay there. We are extremely grateful to the excellent first floor staff who cared for her. Goodbye Mom, we love you and will carry you in our hearts forever! Robert Savage, Ronald and Candice Savage (Calgary), Patricia Henderson and Franz Plangger (Ottawa), Jacqueline and David LaBossiere, Paul and Nicole Savage (Jasper). Goodbye Grandmaman! We will miss you and continue to cherish the stories of your life. Sean, Angie, Kayla and Trevor Savage; Craig, Kim, Carson and Vivianna Savage; Ryan, Gaylene and Hunter Savage; Jason, Connie, Kyle and Jade Savage; Michael, Morgan and Taylor Jachetta; Steven and Tristen Jachetta (Calgary); Lisa, Cam, Asha and Thomas Poland (Bermuda); Marc, Samantha, James and Luke Henderson (Calgary); Keith, Tracy, Melanie and Emma LaBossiere; Michelle, Matias, Justin and Meghan Stecher; Jennifer and Spencer Cox (Golden, BC); Darrell Savage, Kat Wills, Cedar Savage, Hailey and Sage Duguay (Jasper); Michael Savage (New Denver, BC). Supporting the family's great loss are Pierre, Hans and Franz Plangger and their families; Antoine Boucher-Blouin and Geneviève Poirier. May there always be an angel by your side. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in Jeanne's name may be made to Action Marguerite St. Vital, 450 River Road, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R2M 5M4. Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • After being away from the foyer for over a week (due to illness) I was very saddened to read your mom's obituary in Saturday's Free Press. But what a beautiful write-up and such an elegant photo of her! As I sat at the dinning table with my mom & your mom, I often chuckled on the comments your mom had about the food presented to her. And then she'd smile. May the wonderful memories comfort you at this difficult time. My sincere sympathy. - Posted by: Simone Nicolas (daughter of another Foyer Valade resident) on: Jul 14, 2015
