MARJORIE ELLEN BROWN (nee MACKLIN) It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Marjorie Ellen Brown on Monday, July 13, 2015 at Selkirk, Manitoba. Marjorie was predeceased by her brothers, Laurence Macklin and Lloyd Macklin, and is survived by her husband, Wilton Brown, sister, Edith (Roy) Minish, and brother, Jim (Lynne) Macklin, her children, Dennis (Kimily) Brown, Rodney Brown, and Calvin (Jane) Brown, her grandchildren, Laura Brown, Sarah (Dennis) Sekulic, Erin (Jordan) Senkowsky, Jacqui (Jimmy) Ferguson, Colin Brown, Shannon (Jeff) Granter, Matt Stringer, Kyle Roesler, and Robert Roesler, her great-grandchildren, Mira Stringer, Jenna Stringer, Claire Granter, and Evan Granter, and her many nephews and nieces. Throughout their married lives, Marj and Wilton lived in various communities in Manitoba, starting in Gilbert Plains where they met and married, followed by Carman, Russell, and Portage la Prairie. Marj spent the last two years in Selkirk to be near her youngest son, Calvin. Marj's principal focus throughout her life was to be a loving and dedicated spouse, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Additionally, she was always energetically involved in many activities. She enjoyed participating in United Church activities for most of her life and had a particular passion for singing in the choir. She was also an active golfer and curler. Her love of all these activities took her well beyond simple participation, and she often took on organizational and executive roles. She also took great pride in being involved in the workforce at various times as a teacher, bank teller, bookkeeper, sales associate and assistant store manager. One of her great joys as her three sons were growing up was to have her family spend holiday time with her sister Edith's family. Many happy memories were generated from the activities shared - and the challenges presented - by seven cousins of similar ages. Marj was a naturally positive and supportive person. She always looked for the good aspects of every situation and was happiest when everyone around her could succeed together. Her interest in others ensured that she had many close friendships throughout her life, all of which she valued greatly. In later years when Marj couldn't be as physically active, she loved to work on jigsaw and crossword puzzles. Not surprisingly, she was happiest when she could work on these with others. Marjorie was a very special person and will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. We would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Red River Place, Selkirk Homecare, and Woodland Courts in Selkirk for their caring assistance over the past couple of years. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 18, at Trinity United Church in Portage la Prairie with reception and interment at Evergreen Memorial Gardens following. As an expression of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations can be made to Trinity United Church, 15 Tupper Street South, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 1W7, where Marj was an active member for many years.
