Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRONALD HARTLEY SJOBLOM August 1, 1945 - July 12, 2015 We are extremely saddened to announce that Ron passed away suddenly in the early hours of Sunday July 12, 2015 at the age of 69 years. Ron was born in Winnipeg, and was a resident of Charleswood his whole life. He was predeceased by his mother Mabel (Berg) in 2003 and his father Alfons in 1969. Mabel was from Mulvihill, MB and was born to Swedish immigrants. Alfons immigrated to Canada from Abo, Finland. Ron was proud of his Scandinavian heritage. Ron was a licensed mechanic and began his career working with his brother Richard at the Maryland Esso and eventually opened his own car service business, Neil and Watt Service' in East Kildonan, which he ran successfully for many years until his retirement several years ago. Ron had an interest in cars since he was a teenager, and in one high school yearbook photo Ron said his ambition was "to have the fastest car on earth". One of his prized possessions was his 1957 Cadillac, which has long adorned his driveway. Ron was also an avid curler for many years with the Charleswood Curling Club and he participated in many bonspiels with good friends and brought home multiple trophies. Given his successful business and long term residency in Charleswood, his family often joked that he could not go anywhere in the city without running into someone he knew. It was not uncommon for Ron to run into old acquaintances from decades ago who recognized him right away as he was often told he "looked just the same" as he had many years ago. Ron inherited a love of music from his parents, and it was well known that his favourite artist was Mario Lanza. Ron also enjoyed watching sports, eating good food, working in the yard, and going for afternoon coffee with friends at the local Tim Hortons. But most of all, Ron was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Ron married his sweetheart Lynne (Williams) in 1970 and they spent the next 45 years together. He loved his wife dearly, and he always enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He adored his three grandchildren. Ron will be deeply missed by his family and remembered fondly by many people in the community. Ron is survived by his wife Lynne; his brother Richard (Merle); his three children, Chris, Jenine, and Colleen (Todd Cutts); his three grandchildren Aidan, Sadie, and Jillian; and numerous nieces and nephews, extended relatives, and good friends. The family would like to thank Dr. Hartley at Charleswood Medical Clinic and the cardiologists and surgeons at St. Boniface Hospital who worked with Ron, for their care and expertise over these last few years. A funeral service will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., on Saturday July 18, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson's Society of Manitoba or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

It was an honour to work for Ron. He was a true mentor in my trade. He was a very patient man with me as I could be a handfull. I remember working Saturdays at the Henderson Hwy location and we would do a/w for lunch. I would go in the very old service truck and pick up his whistle dog n fries. working on the old caddy with him was fun. He would have been a great father to me. Thanks for the memories Ron. Rest in peace. - Posted by: earl ritchie (former employee) on: Dec 18, 2020
