MARILYN DEFRANG (nee HAMER) 1930 - 2015 It is with great sorrow that the family announces the passing of Marilyn DeFrang in her 85th year in Delray Beach, Florida. She was predeceased by her father William (Bill); mother Alma; and husbands, Henry and Vaughn. Marilyn was born on June 7, 1930, in Winnipeg and spent the early part of her childhood during the "Dirty 30's" in Ponteix, Saskatchewan, before moving back to the family farm in Sanford, Manitoba, near her mother's parents. Marilyn attended school in Sanford, then went on to train as a nurse at the Winnipeg General Hospital, graduating as an RN in 1952. She spent a short time nursing at the Swan River Hospital before moving to Minneapolis, MN, to work and obtain her BN in nursing. She met her first husband, Henry Weber, at the University and was married in 1954. She continued working as a nurse in Minneapolis until her sons, William and Fred were born. Marilyn and Henry bought and ran Henry's Pizzaria and with their sons' help they ran a successful business. After Henry's death, she continued to operate the restaurant with the help of her sons, under the name of Henry's Etcetera. One of her steady customers caught her eye and she married Vaughn DeFrang in 1987. They had an adventurous time travelling and attending shows. The restaurant was sold and Marilyn returned to nursing with Hennepin County. After Vaughn passed away, she retired and moved to Delray Beach, Florida, to be near her son Fred. She spent long hours walking the beach and generally enjoying the weather with no snow to shovel. Marilyn never forgot her hometown and enjoyed returning to Sanford on a regular basis to visit family and friends. She loved to attend nursing reunions and always kept in touch with old friends and family in Manitoba. She is survived by her brother Jack (and wife Mary); sons, Bill Weber (and Cindy) and Fred Weber (and Kathy); and grandchildren; Levi, Serena (and Zach), Caleb, and Max. Cremation has taken place, and a family service will take place in Sioux City, Iowa, with burial in Lake City, Minnesota.
