GRANT DUNCAN NETTLETON It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Grant Duncan Nettleton, our dear father and grandfather, on Tuesday, July 7, 2015, at the age of 73, at the Ste. Anne's Hospital with his family by his side. Grant was born in Winnipeg, MB on December 23, 1941 to Hugh and Lottie Nettleton. As a child, Grant loved to get into mischief and enjoyed going out to visit his grandparents on their farm in Hazelridge, MB. Grant had a great sense of humour and enjoyed teasing everyone. As an adult, he enjoyed spending his time bowling and visiting with family and friends at his cottage where he would play horseshoes, cards, go boating and fishing and have a few beers. Grant started his working career with a local movie theatre and worked there until he moved on to work for Pepsi-Cola for over 20 years. During this time, he married Helena Hamm on October 9, 1965 and had four children. His children were the light of his life. He enjoyed seeing them grow up and become the people they are today. Beyond this, he enjoyed the grandchildren they brought him and you would often catch him bragging about his grandchildren to friends every chance he got. In 1984, Grant "retired" from Blackwood Beverages (Pepsi-Cola/7-UP) and bought McMunn Motor Inn, where he spent the next 31 years with his family establishing lifetime friendships that meant the world to him. He was an avid supporter of his community and the people in it. Grant will be sadly missed by his daughters Tammy (Vince) Silvari, Vicki Nettleton, and Katherine (Jaret) Sawchuk; son Hugh Nettleton; his four grandchildren Kristopher Silvari, Courtney Silvari, Fallon Danis and Xavier Sawchuk; his ex-wife Helena Nettleton; his sister Carolyn (Peter) Lehman; his niece, nephews, cousins and many, many friends. Grant was predeceased by his mother Lottie, father Hugh, and brother Donald. Many thanks go out to the staff at the Ste. Anne's Hospital, Dr. R. Duval, and Dr. P. Demoissac for their loving care and concern shown to our father and grandfather. Also to Cheryl Mason for her daily visits to ensure that Grant was well taken care of and comfortable, and to all the friends and family that visited him during his time in the hospital. He spoke of everyone fondly and couldn't wait to tell his family about everyone that came to visit him and helped him pass the time throughout the day. Thank you all! Our family invites you to share in a Celebration of Grant's Life at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 15 at the Army and Navy Air Force (A.N.A.F) Legion No. 1 at 300-1395 Ellice St. (across from Walmart parking lot on Empress Street). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Grant's favourite charity; the Christmas Cheer Board, Box 51089, Winnipeg, MB R2X 3C6, or Legion, the A.N.A.F No. 1, 300-1395 Ellice St., Winnipeg, MB R3G 0G3. I drove by McMunn Hotel last week and thought of stopping in to say Hi to Grant and get some gas, but for some reason kept on. I would have been shocked to hear of his passing! My Friend Pat, her Mother Meryl and her son Russell and I would very often stop by for gas, drinks and a hi to Grant on our way to Lake of the Woods. If we/I did not stop, I would always look to see Grant's corvette was there and think of him. He was always very welcoming and it was always a pleasure to see him. My thoughts go out to his family at this time of sorrow. - Posted by: Carol () on: Jul 22, 2015

Grant and family were a nice break on the way to and from the lake - gas and ice cream. We also appreciate the extra attention he gave PAPA Ed Kulson our dad. Our condolences to the family. He is missed. The Kulson clan - Posted by: THE KULSONS (CUSTOMERS AND FRIENDSJG) on: Jul 19, 2015

McMunn Hotel was famous for having the coldest beer in all my travels. But that was second best to the kind words of a good conversation I would have with Grant. I would always leave there in a better frame of mind and with a smile on my face from the time I shared with him. No matter how little that may be. He will be missed. - Posted by: Robert Barta (Customer of McMunn Motor Inn) on: Jul 19, 2015

We are so sad to hear the news about Grant's Passing. Our Heartfelt Condolences go out to the family. We have known Grant since he started operating the McMunn Hotel. We always stopped for gas at least once a week for over 25 years. We loved stopping there it was like visiting family. Tammy and Kathy were Grant's children we knew best. Kathy was only a little girl when we first met the family. Grant always had something interesting to talk about and had a great sense of humour. We will miss him so much! Wish we would have known how little time he had left so we could have said a proper goodbye. Rest in peace old friend! - Posted by: Eleanor and John Beilner (Friends ) on: Jul 18, 2015
