JIM DEHOD June 21, 1926 - July 10, 2015 After a short stay at St. Boniface hospital, James Eugene Dehod passed away at the age of 89. The eighth child of Wasyl and Karolya Dehod. Jim outlived all his siblings with the exception of his sister Stella Hrycyk. Jim was predeceased by his beloved wife Irene in 2006; his son Bruce; his sisters Olga Dimunation, Lily Young, Mary Nitchuk; and brothers Michell, Frank, and Walter. Jim will be remembered by daughter Janice; her husband John White; grandchildren Leighton and Elsbeth, and many nephews and nieces in the Canada and the USA. He had sparkle in his eye, was friendly, courteous, and possessing a keen intellect. He taught himself how to do whatever he thought he should do. Family, friends, and fun were always in balance with his drive to "get it done". He loved his family, enjoyed the company of his friends, good conversation, singing, going to jazz concerts, and helping organizing whatever event was current. Jim proudly belonged to the Order of the Scottish Rite, was active with Khartum Temple's Drum and Bugle Corp, and the Shrine R.O.J. Jim grew up in "the North End" in the depression, learning a lot of life lessons. Jim survived hurricanes in Royal Canadian Navy as a seaman during the Second World War. He met and married the love of his life Irene, and went to work in the grain industry. He became a father of two while learning the complexities of the grain trade and in his spare time during evenings and weekends he constructed his family home and cottages and helped others build their homes. Jim was fully engaged, he loved having fun with friends, he loved a friendly competitive game of cribbage or bridge, he loved being outdoors, walking, golfing, birdwatching, sailing, fishing, building, and in the winter he curled and travelled. Jim enjoyed participating with many groups with the grain industry and in the community. When the cottage road board was winding up and there was some money left over, he suggested, "Let's use the money for a party" which started an annual event that has lasted over the years. He worked intelligently for 50 years trading, shipping, and managing in the Grain Industry. He started work as an office boy at Lake Shippers and retired as a Vice President of Pioneer Grain in 1989. In his retirement, Jim and Irene enjoyed time at the cottage at the Lake of the Woods and wintered in Fort Myers beach. Jim considered himself fortunate to have a circle of good friends and family. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Recently heard Mr. Dehod had passed. A wonderful man who was a great friend of my late father, Bruce Hill. He was always there for my father throughout his 3 year fight with his terminal illness picking him up for lunches and visiting and calling him on a regular basis. Mr. Dehod was always concerned for others and put them before himself. We have lost a great man. My condolences to his family. - Posted by: Jane Hill (Friend ) on: Nov 11, 2015

  • I am very distressed and sorry to hear of Jim's death. He was a great friend and took the trouble to help me in my illness. He took us through happy and sad times. He was always cheerful and up to date on everything. We will miss him greatly. - Posted by: Dr. Norman Hill () on: Jul 20, 2015
