HELEN MAY SHROM It is with great sadness that the family of Helen May Shrom announces her passing on Monday, July 6, 2015 at the age of 87 years. She was predeceased by her devoted husband Saul and is survived by her loving children Linda and Martin Kahan and David and Jerry Shrom. She will be missed by her grandchildren, Jodi (Steve), Richard (Sommer), Carly, Lainey (Paul), Yael and Saul; great-grandchildren Ethan, Gavin and Bodhi. She is also survived by her brother Easton Lexier and her loving friend Max Hochman, with whom she shared many wonderful times over the past 12 years. Helen May was the cornerstone of her family, an extremely proud mother and baba whose greatest joy in life (besides enjoying chocolate) was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her strong family values and her care and concern for others live on in her family. She married Saul (nicknamed "Imby") in May 1950 and they spent a beautiful 40 years together filled with love, laughter and affection, until his passing in 1990. Helen May and Saul worked side by side in their office supply business, a responsibility she valued in addition to caring for their two children. Helen May was a devoted member of both the Winnipeg and Jewish communities, volunteering countless hours at the Health Sciences Centre, Seven Oaks General Hospital and Folklorama. Through her work with Jewish Women International, she knitted thousands of mittens for inner-city school children over the years and it gave her tremendous pleasure to deliver them herself and watch them get distributed to the students. She was the recipient of numerous awards recognizing her countless hours of volunteer service. Helen May will be remembered for her unwavering strength in facing life's challenges. She never complained and maintained a positive attitude for herself, and for those around her. She lived a life of generosity and genuine kindness and has left a legacy for those who knew and loved her. Funeral services were held at Congregation Etz Chayim on July 7, 2015. Donations may be made in Helen May's memory to The Gwen Secter Creative Living Centre or CancerCare Manitoba.

My deepest sympathies to your family. Helen volunteered with me at Seven Oaks General Hospital for several years. I always looked forward to the days Helen was volunteering as she brightened everyone's day.
