KATARZYNA TWOREK
Born: Nov 14, 1925
Date of Passing: Jul 17, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKATARZYNA (KAY) TWOREK (nee ZALUSKA) It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Katarzyna Tworek on Friday, July 17, 2015. She leaves to cherish her memory her children Ted, Christine, Edward, Barbara, Margaret, and Peter and their families, along with numerous nephews and nieces in Canada and Poland. She was predeceased by her husband Stanislaw, and son Jerry. One of eight children Kay was born in Niemstow, Poland on November 14, 1925. After the outbreak of the Second World War, and at the tender age of 13, Kay along with her brother Stanislaw, was taken and deported to Germany for forced labour. Through her resilience and strength of character Kay overcame the hardships the war years brought and eventually re-united with her brother at Wildflecken displacement camp in Germany. No longer able to return to their homeland they both immigrated to Canada and settled in Winnipeg where Kay met her future husband Stanislaw Tworek. Hard working and always generous Kay took pleasure in her favourite activities such as blueberry and mushroom picking and tending to her bountiful garden. She often shared her delicious cooking and baking with her children, friends and neighbours. Prideful of her Polish heritage Kay utilized these incomparable talents as an active member of the SPK Polish Legion Club 13. Of the many functions that she helped to cater for, including the Warsaw Pavillion during Folklorama, her skills in the kitchen were a delight to many. Apart from raising seven children Kay worked at Hudson's Bay Company where she was adored by all and even considered part of the family after she retired. Devoutly Catholic, Kay was involved with Holy Ghost Church on Selkirk Avenue where she was a member of the Catholic Women's League for over 60 years. It was also here that she took much pleasure in singing with the St. Cecelia Choir. Kay will be sadly and deeply missed by those who knew and loved her. The family would like to thank all the staff at Holy Family Home, 165 Aberdeen Avenue, St. Mary's Wing for all the love and care given to Kay. In lieu of flowers, please kindly consider a donation to Holy Family Home to help support the wonderful work they provide. Prayers will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. on Thursday, July 23 at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 341 Selkirk Ave. on Friday, July 24 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Holy Ghost Cemetery, 4387 Main St.

We were neighbours of your family for thirty years, so it came as a terrible shock to learn, only yesterday, that your wonderful Mom has passed away and so soon after you lost Jerry. We have so many memories of the good times we had together when we were all quite new to "Shaughnessy Heights." My family joins me in extending our deepest sympathy to all of you. - Posted by: Grace Malloy (Former Neighbour) on: Oct 03, 2015

Chris and Family I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your Mom. It is never easy and my deepest sympathy is with you at such a sad time. After reading the story about your mom's life in the Free Press a few years ago it is so hard to imagine the hardships she must have endured as a young girl during the war. She Was very courageous. Unfortunately I am out of the City but defintiely would have attended her service. Know that my thoughts and prayers are with you as you go through this sad time. - Posted by: Donna Martin (Friend of Chris and family) on: Jul 22, 2015

My deepest sympathies to your family, your mom was a lovely person. As a child I remember her always working so hard in the kitchen or on the garden but always welcomed friends and family with warm cake and hot tea. - Posted by: Linda McMurtry (Chorney) (Family neighbour and friend) on: Jul 22, 2015
