Cousin Doug was my junior and I baby-sat him and his siblings on occasion. He was always easy to deal with and fun to be with. Lately I became aware of his illness as we corresponded and he was to come to Ottawa for treatment. His wonderful, positive approach to life is an example for all of us! His smile was contagious! There is a phrase that aptly describes his attitude: "Courage is the ability to face life on whatever terms are offered. " He will be sorely missed. Our family moved from Winnipeg when I was 6 years old, so my memories of Doug are as a very young boy. Even then he was a mischievous little fellow with a big smile and a twinkle in his eyes. He loved nothing better than to tease his cousins Susan and Me resulting in a great chase up and down the stairs at Gramma Johnson's house. Poor Gramma, I don't know how she stood all the noise! I just wanted to say how sorry I was to hear of Doug's passing away and send my love and condolences to the family. - Posted by: Linda (George) McDonald (Cousin) on: Jul 25, 2015

I remember Doug as a loyal friend and a genuinely good person. He also had a great sense of humor and enjoyed telling me tall tales to see how much he could convince me to believe. Please accept my sincere condolences on your loss. - Posted by: Arleen Hall (high school friend) on: Jul 24, 2015
