Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKATHLEEN (KAY) PATRICIA PRICE (nee HENDERSON) June 8, 1925 - July 17, 2015 It is with deep sadness and fond memories that we announce the passing of our mother, Kathleen Patricia Price on July 17, 2015. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, daughter Donna, son Harley (Connie) and daughter Kathy (Rob); nine grandchildren Jason (Carly), Derek (Sherri), Melanie (Brian), Darren (Chrissy), Scott (Tara), Kim (Steve), Kurtis (Melanie), Kristen (Paul) and Kris-Jon; 17 great-grandchildren; sisters Phyllis (Ed) and Evelyn; sister-in-law June, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Kathleen was predeceased by her husband Donald, siblings Thelma, Eleanor, and Dorothy, son-in-law Gilbert, seven brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law, two nephews, two nieces, and her parents D'Arcy and Christina Henderson. Born on June 8, 1925 in Camper, MB, Kay was the fourth of six children born to parents Nelson D'Arcy Henderson and Christina (Tiny) Lilies. Kay was raised in the small village of Camper, MB. She attended the one room school with her sisters and then moved to Woodlands to complete her high school diploma. She and her sisters shared a love of music, enjoyed ball games and picnics, skating and radio programs as they grew up together. After completing high school, Kay signed up to be a member of the CWAC (Canadian Women's Army Corp). She completed her basic training in Vermillion, AB and then was posted in Montreal where she worked for postal services. When the war ended, Kay worked in Winnipeg for the Canadian Wheat Board and then obtained a teaching permit, and subsequently her first teaching job near Deloraine, MB. In 1947, Kay married Donald Price and they moved to the Price family farm to begin their life together. They moved to their own farm a year and a half later where they raised their family and enjoyed the adventures of mixed farming. Kay spent several years in service to the Lakeshore School Division as a teacher and later school secretary at Ashern Central School. She enjoyed working with the youth of the community and cherished the relationships she established with colleagues. Supporting community events and volunteering to help with local projects was a way of life for Kay. Service for Seniors, Women's Auxiliary and the Ashern Museum were just a few she supported over the years. She was also a dedicated 4-H leader while her own children were participating, and for many additional years to support her grandchildren's interest as well. Kay was a woman of faith and she was proud to be a long time member of the Grace Lutheran Church. She shared her gifts by joining the choir and teaching Sunday school. Kay loved to laugh, golf, sing and travel, but her biggest passion was sharing time with family and friends. Whether a personal phone call, a cup of tea or an excursion with a group, Kay was at her happiest when she was spending time with those she loved. She will be remembered by all for her laughter, her kindness and her gentle nature. Kay was a loving wife, mom and grandma who touched many hearts and many taste buds. Her apple pie and fruit cake were second to none, and her smile was one of a kind. The family would like to thank the staff at the Carberry Personal Care Home who cared for Mom with understanding and compassion during her time with them. A Memorial Service honouring Kay's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2015 at the Grace Lutheran Church, Ashern, MB with Pastor Erwin Tippel officiating. Interment to follow in the Camper Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kay's memory to a charity of one's choice.
