RUSTON ALLISON FORD July 6, 1941 - July 18, 2015 It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Ruston Allison Ford on July 18, 2015 at the Golden Links Lodge Personal Care Home in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Predeceased by his lovely wife Sonya (nee Malakoff) in August of 2008, Rusty's memory will blaze in the hearts of his son and namesake Ruston Scott (wife Phyllis); his daughter Melanie (husband John Wilson); his sister Dallas (husband Tom Goodchild); beloved nieces Ashley, Shelby and Chelsea Malakoff; his devoted friends Merilyn and Kevin Guiney and their three daughters, as well as the many friends he touched throughout his 74 years. He was predeceased by brother Douglas and parents Edith and Percival Ford. Born July 6, 1941 in Winnipeg, Rusty graduated with a degree in Geology from the University of Manitoba to pursue a career in mining that would take him from the Arctic to Australia. He officially began his mining career in Lynn Lake's Sherritt Gordon mine where his bunkmate Ernie Krys introduced him to the fiery redheaded school teacher he would eventually make his bride. Rusty married Sonya in a double wedding ceremony along with Ernie and Sonya's sister, Eileen. Rusty and Sonya then relocated stateside to Kellogg, Idaho where Rusty worked at the Bunker Hill and Sunshine mines, becoming known as the Bronco Kid for his discovery of a silver vein. In 1970, Rusty, his wife, and two children returned to Lynn Lake until 1978 when Rusty was hired by Exxon Minerals, a job that would take the Ford family first to Rhinelander, Wisconsin, then on to Houston, Texas. Rusty's career culminated as the General Manager of Teck Corona's David Bell Mine in Marathon, Ontario. He was well liked and respected by many of the miners he encountered along the way and carried memories of the warm camaraderie of his "guys" to his last days. Beyond his work, Rusty was passionate about the simple things. Some good tunes, a good meal, a good drink, a good laugh and a good view of the lake were the best things in life, made all the better if there was a dog or two by his side. He will be remembered by all who loved him as a man of integrity, warmth and creativity. The Ford family would especially like to express their gratitude to Merilyn and Kevin Guiney for their strength and compassionate friendship in Rusty's last years and indeed, his final moments. Thanks also to the kind staff at the Golden Links Lodge Personal Care Home. A memorial service will be had at a later date. In lieu of condolences, the family would like anyone wishing to mark Rusty's passing to make a donation to the animal charity of their choice.
