HELEN REMPEL (THIESSEN) August 19, 1922 - July 21, 2015 Peacefully with family by her side we announce the passing of Helen Rempel on Tuesday July 21, 2015. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, daughter Sandra, (Neil) and his children, Jennifer (Jason) Zachary, Derrick (Leanne) Emma, Ethan and Peyton, Kevin (Brooke); grandsons Christopher (Lisa) with Ryan, Shayann, Zachary; Michael (Jaime) with Jessi, Lucas, Joshua; Robert(Jennifer) with Olivia, Chloe, Jacob; grandson David, granddaughter Melanie (Ryan) with Joseph; brothers Jack (Wilma), Henry (Elma) as well as many nieces and nephews . Helen was predeceased by her husband Ike, son Stanley, son Tim and daughter Diane, siblings John, Abe, Agnes, Susan, Agatha and her parents Jacob and Aganetha. Mom married Dad in August 1942. She was first a homemaker and then worked for many years at McLeod's head office in the printing department. Upon retirement mom found the days long and took on another job at Food Systems. Mom made many lifetime friends at work and still met with them for lunch or a shopping trip. Mom enjoyed travelling on bus excursions but her favourite trips were to see family in the states. She never missed a wedding, graduation or special occasion with family there. Mom loved sports and watched them with great enthusiasm, baseball, hockey, golf and curling were among the favourites. And then there were activities in Bethel Place, pool, shuffleboard and of course the favourite, cards. The foursome would get together for a rousing game of canasta every Friday night. These special friends and their time together were very important to mom. Family was everything to Mom. She spent time with nieces and nephews and each year her brothers and sisters would meet to celebrate a special pre Christmas together. Mom, grandma, great-grandma's unconditional love of family, her inner strength and deep faith were a constant inspiration to us. We will cherish all the times we had together and are deeply grateful for her love and guidance. Memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Mennonite Church, 465 Stafford Street. Private interment will have taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society, available at the church.
