DANIEL EDWARD WEIR 1934 - 2015 On July 22, 2015, Dad passed away after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Dad will be forever loved and sadly missed by his wife of 56 years - Anne, his son Dan (Maria), granddaughter Victoria, son Jerry, and sister Eva Ziemanski (John). Born in Winnipegosis, Manitoba, Dad grew up on the family farm where his love of animals began, where he skated, played baseball, worked hard on the large farm, and where he met the love of his life. Dad joined the Air Force and was based in Ontario and Nova Scotia. He served four years before returning and then moving to Winnipeg to join his hometown sweetheart and begin his career. In his career, he was involved in management and ownership of a number of companies including Wilson-Gregory Lumber, Atlas Construction, St. Vital Lumber, Palco Distribution, Palco Windows, and J.A.W. Windows. Dad was an early director of the TIM-BR-Mart buying group and the WRLA. Dad was a quiet man with a dry sense of humour and quick wit, he was a voracious reader and loved word and number puzzles and his poker games. Dad was modest and reserved but caring. Animals were drawn to him, whether it was a chipmunk on his shoulder, deer following him on a path, or neighbourhood or family pets running up to see if he was on the patio, sometimes from several blocks away. Dad carried cancer like any other responsibilities in his life - on his back without complaint. The family would like to thank the staff at both CancerCare and the Victoria Hospital. Cremation has taken place and a private celebration of his life will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare, The Victoria Hospital Foundation, or an animal charity of choice.

  • Dearest Anne, Dan and Jerry & family: My prayers are with you that our Lord would bring comfort and encouragement through family & friends. I have many wonderful memories of times we've shared together. Planning many celebrations and fun get togethers. Kas enjoyed the baseball games he and Dan went to and the times they sat and shared their life stories. They were both listeners and valued the respect of a listening ear while sharing their wealth of knowledge and interests. They both displayed a quiet strength. I always enjoyed our visits on the front porch and times together at St. Vital Park feeding the ducks. Dan never seemed to mind the impromptu visits that were sometimes two and three times a day. Kas and I considered ourselves blessed to have shared friendship with you. Thanking our Lord for His Promise of Eternal Life in His glorious Kingdom where there is no more pain, sorrow, suffering or tears, but Joy unspeakable and full of Glory to those who believe.
