JOYCE KATHERINE KENDEL (née MAYOR) On July 24, 2015, Joyce was called to the arms of the Lord, with her family at her side. Joyce will be remembered by her beloved sister Judy (Lucas) Beauchemin, loving children Grant (Tina) Kendel, Douglas (Monique) Kendel, and Katherine Kendel, her grandchildren Daniel (Tannis), Patrick (Vanessa), Jayme (Kael), Johnathan, Jordan, and Jasmine, great-grandsons Lucas and Rhys, and many family and friends. Joyce was predeceased by her husband Douglas Kendel, sister Betty, and brother Jack. Joyce was born in Amaranth, Manitoba on November 18, 1930. Growing up on a farm Joyce developed her great love for animals. She lived for baseball, spending the majority of her life either playing, coaching, or just teaching her children and grandchildren the art of the game. She was a foster mother for many years, worked at the Misericordia Hospital for 18 years, and was an active member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir. Joyce was the head of a loving family and words cannot describe the amount of kindness and love she spread. She will be greatly missed. Funeral service will be held Thursday, July 30 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 708 McCalman Ave. Interment to follow at Brookside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society.

  • I miss mom's cooking and her way of cooking cookies to celebrate holidays. She often visits me in my dreams to say hi. I feel she is here in spirit at times checking up on all the family. - Posted by: Katherine Gladue (daughter) on: Dec 01, 2018

  • my condolences to the Kendel family for your loss. Mrs Kendel was my favorite foster mom. I have nothing but wonderful memories living with them. The night before I was leaving, I stayed up in my room and she came to check on me. I was crying because I didn't want to leave. Years later, she told me that I almost got her crying. I was 11 when I lived with them. I lost a tooth and she told me to stick it under my pillow and the tooth fairy will come for a visit. I told her I quit getting money from the tooth fairy so I don't believe. She told me to do it anyway and see what happens. I did and got money :D She and I kept in touch over the years, I am so grateful to have had her in my life. I'm so sorry I couldn't make it in for the funeral. • Deepest sympathy to the Kendel Family Mrs. K was known as "Mom" at the Misericordia school residence. She was one of the most genuine, sincere and loving Mother figures at the nursing residence. She was our mentor, our protector at the front door, the messenger, who gave hugs, shared laughter and love. She often took us to the raceway, to her baseball games and to her home. She opened her heart and home to this student nurse and was an important part of life outside of nursing studies. We have lost a great woman in our "Misericordia nursing family" but will continue to hold the memories dear. - Posted by: Deborah (Misericordia Nurse, Grad 1987) on: Jul 29, 2015

  • I pray our Lord will comfort you all!! It was wonderful to be a part of Joyce's Holy Cross life. Her love of baseball was also shared by my love of it.
