MARIA (MARY) FOLTAN November 8, 1923 - July 27, 2015 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beautiful, beloved daughter, wife, sister, auntie and friend to all who had the privilege of knowing her. On Monday, July 27, 2015 after a brief illness, and as the morning sun rose, she passed peacefully to be with her Lord and Saviour in Heaven. Left to cherish Mary's memory are her sister Rose; nieces Annelise, Monica, Barbara and Ursula and their families; nephews Helmut and Herbert and their families; numerous cousins and second cousins; as well as many dear friends. She was predeceased by her parents John and Minnie; brothers Joseph and August; husband Karl; and her nephew Richard. On November 8, 1923 Mary was born in Velke Pole, Slovakia. She immigrated to Canada and made her home in Fort Garry, Manitoba for over 60 years. She worked at the University of Manitoba for many years as a Dietary Aide. After moving from her home, she spent many wonderful years with friends at the Rotary Villa in Fort Garry. In 2013, she moved to North Vancouver, British Columbia to live with her sister, Rose. This was a special time of great joy for Mary because her family meant everything to her. She was able to enjoy many family milestones, as well as lovely, poignant quiet times shared between her and her sister Rose at the kitchen table. Mary was a woman of great faith. She shaped her spirituality by her tireless Christian example. Throughout her life she maintained a sweet and simple demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many, who even now are being changed by her example of unending nurturing love and faith. Her signature gift of joy shown by her constant smiling, laughter and sense of humor will never be forgotten. Mary loved to sing; she had the voice of an angel. She loved to garden, cook, bake, knit, do puzzles, always enjoyed the company of others and had a special bond and love for birds. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Vital Roman Catholic Church, 1629 Pembina Highway, with Rev. Fr. Barry Schoonbaert, P.P. presiding. Interment will follow in the St. Vital Roman Catholic Parish Cemetery, 826 Crescent Drive, Winnipeg, Manitoba. For those who wish, viewing will be held prior to Mass. The family is deeply grateful for the heart-felt outpouring of love, prayers and support from those who loved her. In lieu of flowers, if you wish, a donation may be made in Mary's memory to the St. Vital Roman Catholic Church or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. • I have known Mary while she lived at the Fort Garry Rotary Villa. She was such a sweet and kind lady with a good sense of humour. I know she is in heaven now but I, including her loved ones, will surely miss her smile and presence. My sympathies to the family, especially her sister Rose. - Posted by: Dionisia (friend) on: Aug 04, 2015
