SHIRLEY (TERESA) FITZMAURICE On Thursday, July 23, 2015 after a brief illness, Shirley Fitzmaurice died peacefully at Oakview Place Personal Care Home, at the age of 79 years. Left to forever cherish Shirley's memory are her daughters, Patti Fitzmaurice of Winnipeg, Manitoba and Karen (Steven) Kolars of Woodbury, Minnesota. She is remembered with love by her grandchildren, Kelsey and Ian; sister-in-law Joan Giardine of Burlington, Ontario; as well as her many nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by her husband, John Fitzmaurice; parents, William and Mary Ellen; and her sisters Eve, Lena, Katherine, Laura and Hester. Mom was born in Truro, Nova Scotia. She attended the Halifax Infirmary becoming a registered nurse. Shortly after graduating she enlisted with the Canadian Armed Forces medical services becoming a nursing sister. One of Mom's first postings was to Churchill, Manitoba where she met the love of her life, an RCMP officer, John Fitzmaurice. They were married in Truro, Nova Scotia and returned to Manitoba where she lived for the rest of her life. She worked as a public health nurse in various locations in Manitoba retiring in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Mom was a beautiful, elegant and loving person. She was an accomplished pianist and shared her love of music and the arts with her family and friends. Mom's church and faith were very important to her and she loved singing in the choir and the various other ministries she was involved through the years. The Rosary will be Prayed on Thursday, August 6, 2015; followed by Funeral Mass which will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. in St. Charles Roman Catholic Church, 320 St. Charles Street, Winnipeg, MB with Rev. Fr. Paul Tinguely, presiding. Inurnment will follow in St. Charles Roman Catholic Parish Cemetery. We would like to extend our thanks to the staff and residents of Sturgeon Creek Retirement Residence 1 for the warmth and kindness they gave to Mom while she resided there. She moved to Oakview Place Personal Care Home in June of 2015 and shortly after that was diagnosed with cancer. We appreciate, more than words can convey, the tender care the staff gave Mom and us during this difficult time. We further wish to thank Dr. Kotecha, Mom's physician for many years, for his thoughtfulness and the care he gave to our mother. In lieu of flowers the family would prefer that you make a donation to the charity of your choice. Wojcik's Funeral Chapel, 2157 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB in care of arrangements 204.897.4665.
