Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN K.GIESBRECHT SR. August 18, 1931 - August 13, 2015 John passed away peacefully at Gimli Hospital on August 13, 2015. He was predeceased by his loving wife Rose, daughter-in-law Paula and brothers-in-law; Albert, Harold, Norman and Ernie. John will be lovingly remembered by his children; Bryan (Eva), Joanne (Paul), Bruce, Ronald (Marlis), John (Kim) and Marshall (Janet), 11 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and two great-step-grandchildren, brothers; Elmer (Doreen), Rene (Hilda), Peter and sisters; Agnes , Sarah, Betty and Irene. John was born in Elm Creek Manitoba. He spent his early years working on his parent's farm doing the usual duties of the time, tending to pigs, chickens, the garden, light carpentry and construction. At age 16 John left home. Work took him to logging camps north of Vermillion Bay, the CNR in Carman, early warning radar towers in Churchill, and nickel mines in Northern Manitoba. In 1950 a job with the CNR took him to Toronto for a year. On a visit home to Manitoba a year later he met his wife. He spent the next few years putting away some savings by working as a cook in NWT and labouring in diamond drilling and gold mines. In 1953 John married Rose and took up the task of raising their six children in Winnipeg. After many years with the CPR as a trainsman, John found his niche, car sales. John loved the business of car sales and worked his way into Management at Community Chev. Olds. In 1976 he had an opportunity to purchase a small dealership in Gimli Manitoba. In March of 1988 he built and moved into brand new facilities Hwy No. 8 and Rd. 231. In 1997 John was awarded the McLeans "Manitoba Dealer of Excellence" Award by General Motors. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, August 21, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michaels RC Church, # 113- 7th Ave. Gimli, Manitoba. Viewing prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of John can be made to Parkinson's Society Manitoba, 7-414 Westmount Drive, Winnipeg, MB, R2J 1P2 or a charity of your choice.
