KARL CHARLES (CHARLIE) BANACK November 27, 1925 - August 15, 2015 Peacefully on Saturday, August 15, 2015 Karl Charles Banack passed away with his family by his side. Charlie was born in Pilot Butte, Saskatchewan on November 27, 1925 and moved to Winnipeg in 1926. He was predeceased by his parents, Helena (Sorokowska) Banack in December, 1925, his father Dymetro Banack on May 17, 1968, both of Ukraine, brother Frank on June 18, 1990 and his daughter Barbara on April 17, 2009. He leaves to mourn his passing and to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 68 years, Mary, his children Carole (Don), Darlene (Keith), grandchildren, Kristy (Christopher), Karen (Jarett), David, Daniel (Brittany), Raina (Chase), and great-grandchildren Ethan and Logan. Charlie and Mary resided in the North End of Winnipeg all of their lives. They met on February 13, 1946 at the roller rink, it was love at first sight, and married on August 23, 1947. He served in the Canadian Armoured Corps from 1944 to 1946 and was deployed here in Canada, the United Kingdom and Continental Europe. Charlie was employed with Canadian National Railways for 40 years in the Bridge and Building Department, mainly in the Fort Rouge yards, and the final 15 years was renovating the CN Train Station. Charlie had a passion for gardening, carpentry, photography, sports and his family. He was an avid bowler for 23 years and won many trophies, and loved to golf as well. His greatest gift to all of us, was his sense of humour in all aspects of life. Besides being a carpenter, he was also a mechanic, plumber, electrician and all around Jack of all Trades. He loved to spend many hours with his grandchildren, reading, doing puzzles, playing card games and soccer. During family occasions, Charlie was also fortunate to spend some of that time with his great-grandchildren playing soccer and shooting pool. Funeral Service will take place on Thursday, August 20, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main St. Interment will follow in Brookside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. The family would like to thank the staff at Seven Oaks General Hospital for their care and compassion, also the management, staff and Marita at Amber Meadows. Special thanks to Dr. Crawford for his many years of dedicated care of Charlie.
