ELEANOR RUTH THIESSEN (nee BERTRAM) After a long, hard fought battle with cancer, it is with heavy hearts the family shares the news that Eleanor passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at the St. Boniface Hospital. Eleanor was born February 12, 1952 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. As a very young infant she was adopted by Tom and Jean Bertram and completed their family as a little sister to two big brothers. Throughout her childhood, she lived in the communities of Morden, Langruth and Erickson, Manitoba establishing many life long friendships along the way. In 1973, Eleanor married Ken Thiessen and together they had one son, Kori. Eleanor loved the colour yellow, liver and onions, horses (she always wanted one of her own) and cleaning. As a child her room was always clean and sometimes family would joke with her as she vacuumed over the previous days vacuum tracks. She preferred to let others take the lead in the kitchen, however at Christmas time the family loved to eat her caramel shortbread slice and sugar cookies. Eleanor worked for Winnipeg Photo, CIBC and for many years at Dominion Carpet Cleaning. Her "Dominion Family" held a special place in her heart and our family will be forever grateful for the the love, support and kindness shown to "Ellie" right until her passing. Above all Eleanor loved her family. She loved to spend her holidays with her parents and brothers in Ditch Lake fishing, reading Stephen King novels and sleeping in the bunk house. She was always interested in the lives of her nieces and nephews and loved to spend time with them and the next generation of our family. She felt very blessed with the arrival of her two grandsons, Thomas and Andrew, and although they lived in Calgary, Skype allowed her to be with them often. Eleanor is survived by her son Kori, his wife Charlene and grandsons Thomas and Andrew of Calgary, her big brothers Bob and Laurence Bertram and their families. She had a special connection with many of her cousins and they too will miss her. She also leaves behind her very dear friends "the two Donnas" - who were there for her until the very end. Eleanor always put her family and friends first and those of us who are missing her terribly are the benefactors of her selfless nature. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at St. Boniface Hospital, CancerCare and all those who were with her in their various roles - namely Doctors Morrow, Qureshi, Nashed, Sikora, Grenier and Lynch. The family would like to invite friends to come share a memory and beverage at The Niakawa Travelodge on 20 Alpine Avenue - Friday, August 21 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. My "little Mummy", my mother, confidante, and friend, my boys will know you through the stories I will share and the place in my heart that will always be yours - Kori At Eleanor's request, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba.

I became Elli's friend when she became one if my clients. I did her hair for many years. I'll always treasure her selfless and caring ways. We had many "gabs" on her living room couch. Ellie couldn't have been more proud of you Kori and your wonderful little boys. You were her life. I'll miss her. - Posted by: Marilyn Brounstein (I was her friend .) on: Sep 24, 2015

Kori, your mom was such an amazing person. I loved her so much. I had no idea she was ill or that she was in the city. I've missed her for many years. She loved you more than anything. You were her rock, and an amazing son and friend to her. She'll always be in my thoughts, and I hope you're doing well. So sad to hear of her passing. - Posted by: Greg Schnell (friend) on: Aug 23, 2015

Bob, Laurence and families We are thinking of all of you this week, as you mourn Eleanor's passing, yet celebrate her life. I have so many wonderful memories of Eleanor, and the times she spent, when we were kids, with our family. They are happy memories I will never forget. I recall that Eleanor never complained and she had the ability to make others laugh and lighten up. Eleanor and I had a great phone conversation in July, and again she had no complaints, and we had so many laughs. Another wonderful memory. May God's ever present love surround you all at this time. Message to family members. Memories of Eleanor are many but none recent. We were next door neighbours for about 8 years inLangruth. After her move to Erickson I enjoyed many summer visits with my friend. As I have mentioned, she loved to have me tickle her back. We were a mischievous twosome. She always had plans to make money, banker's daughter! We even opened a store in her playhouse and sold crabapples that we" borrowed from the neighbourhood. We were the local "flower girls" delivering flowers from my dad's garden to Seniors in exchange for treat. Any time we met even if it was years between, the friendship bond was still there and still is. I regret not seeing her more often but am thankful thatwe did get to share some laughs a few weeks ago. I hope that the family finds strength in each other and comfort in their memories of my dear friend. - Posted by: Evelynne Callander neeOrgan (Childhood friend) on: Aug 20, 2015

Kori - I am so very sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. I remember her fondly by how welcoming she always was to me and how much she adored Jim! She was full of character and always smiling and it was always apparent how proud she was of you. My thoughts are with you, a Mom is tough to lose. RIP "Oooly"!! xoxoxo - Posted by: Bahia Taylor (friend to Kori) on: Aug 20, 2015

Dave was always known as "bucky", Eleanor's "younger man". She always had a crush on him. We got to spend a few days with Eleanor this summer in Clear Lake, it was a great time. She will always hold a special place in our hearts. We will cheer her on Friday in celebration of her life. Our thoughts go out to her family in this tough time.
