JJ KELEHER JJ Keleher passed away at age 89 years on August 20, 2015 in Winnipeg. Son of Adele and Jack Keleher, and survived by his loving wife of 61 years Gloria (nee Ohlson), his three sons Bruce (Leslie Mendelson), Loren (Joan Hreno) and Michael (Elizabeth Richards), along with six grandsons, Alex, Eli, Spencer, Myles, Maxwell and Owen, who have inherited an interest in travel along with the Keleher sense of humour. JJ lived a good life, with a love for education and books. He had a passion for travel, golf, photography, knick knacks and geegaws. Team sports were central. He was proud of a championship win by St. Paul's High School basketball (which was unfortunately published in the April 1st newspaper), cheered his three boys at countless hockey games and enjoyed golf with the FFers (Friendly Fellows) at Southwood. He was a graduate of University of Manitoba, University of Toronto and University of Michigan. His career started as a Fisheries Biologist with the Freshwater Fisheries Research Board of Canada, in London, Ontario, and later in Winnipeg. Included in this was research into the Commercial Fishery in Great Slave Lake, North West Territories. He subsequently served as the Executive Secretary to the Manitoba Environmental Council. He gave back to his community in retirement, volunteering with Winnipeg Child and Family Services for 11 years. Many recipients benefited from generous donations provided by the JJ and Gloria Keleher Foundation. A memorial will be held at Fairway Woods, 80 Snow Street, Winnipeg, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on September 12.
