CECILE MARIE DESROCHES
Born: Mar 24, 1924
Date of Passing: Sep 01, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCECILE MARIE DESROCHES (née GAMACHE) Our "petite mama" passed away peacefully on September 1, 2015 at the age of 91. She was born to Honorat and Cédulie (née Fradette) Gamache on March 24, 1924 in Laurier, MB where she spent her youth and met her future husband, Joseph. In 1979, she lost her beloved "Joe" as a result of a heart condition and now she has rejoined him. She was predeceased by her siblings Victor, Angela (Grey Nuns), Albert, Marie (Pickering), Victorine (Sisters of the Presentation), Réné, Rose (Krotch) and Raymond. Cecile will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her eight sons and daughters-in-law: Ronald (Lucille), Robert (Lise), Maurice (Rita), Gilbert (Wanda), Michel (Cathy), Donald (Brenda), Denis and Louis (Stephanie), along with her 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Mom grew up in Laurier and had a short career as a school teacher. After the Second World War, she married Joe, who was a carpenter at that time working with Pépére Desroches (Valmor). After her first child was born and since she truly desired a daughter, she endured six more pregnancies resulting in seven more boys. Ultimately she decided to quit one short of a regulation baseball team. She often stated that her daughters-in-law more than made up for her inability to conceive her own! Cecile was devoted to her family yet still had time to look after her mother who lived with us for nearly 10 years! She was truly blessed in her early married life to be living near her in-laws in Laurier. Mémère Desroches (Marie) played a big part in helping to raise her rapidly expanding family. Years later, we moved to Ste Rose du Lac where Dad managed and eventually purchased the "Solo" store. As her children aged, Mom played a more active role in running the family business yet still had time to prepare wonderful meals and clean up after her boys. Mom loved to cook, read, play cards (especially bridge with the Verleys and Bouchards), enjoyed many games (including Scrabble with her dear friend Germaine Molgat) and gambling (with the Lecunffs), knitting and crocheting and travelling. In 1955, she played bingo in Neepawa and won the "Ford" jackpot which was Dad's first and only new vehicle! Mom was frequently called upon to take care of her grandchildren. She was strong willed, feisty and often offered assistance to anyone who was in need of a helping hand! The family would like to thank all the staff, both at Trois Villa and Dr. Gendreau Personal Care Home who made her long stay here a very pleasant one. We are very appreciative of your love, care and dedication in attending to all of Mom's needs. Our sincere gratitude is also extended to Dr. David O'Hagan and the medical personnel at the Ste. Rose General Hospital. Funeral Mass for Cecile will be held on Saturday, September 5 at 10:00 a.m. from Ste. Rose de Lima Roman Catholic Church, Ste. Rose du Lac. Prayers will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Fr. Leo Fernandes will celebrate the mass with a private interment following in the Ste. Rose Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. Should friends so desire, donations may be made in memory of Cecile to Dr. Gendreau Memorial Personal Care Home or the Ste. Rose General Hospital c/o the Prevost Foundation, P.O. Box 60, Ste. Rose du Lac, MB R0L 1S0. Rest in Peace Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Services Ste. Rose Chapel 204-447-2444 www.sneathstrilchuk.com
