WILLIAM DOERKSEN Strong hands stopped working today - September 1, 2015. William (Bill) Doerksen was a loving, compassionate and creative man. He had been suffering from Alzheimer's for the past few years and had a massive stroke on June 27, 2015, which he never recovered from. His family will always cherish his memory, especially his wife Patricia; his three daughters, Evelyn (Jim), Kim (Tom) and Lori (Darryl). William had 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, plus two sisters, Mary Pederson and Susie (Louie) Byman, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, five brothers (Pete, Abe, David, Richard and Jake) and one sister (Helen). His family meant everything to him. Bill was always there to lend a helping hand to whoever needed it. He was the neighbourhood's "Mr. Fix It". Some of his favourite pastimes were building birdhouses, playing cards and to the end, he loved going for tea and Timbits. The family would like to thank Dr. Bialy at Seven Oaks Hospital and all the nursing staff on the 5th floor for their outstanding end-of-life care. We would also like to thank the spiritual advisors and our pastors from Christian Life Assembly. To honour William's memory, donations may be made to either the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba. In life, our journey is filled with love, laughter and struggles - but in the end a reflection of who we were. William Doerksen was a great man. Dad, you may be unseen and unheard however you will always be missed and always loved. A private family funeral has already taken place. Chapel Lawn www.chapellawn.ca 885-9715

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • I had the pleasure of knowing Bill as a young teen who grew up with Lori and Kim in Weston. Mr Doerksen always had a smile, a kind word and was more than welcoming to me. Lori and her family always bring up great memories for me. I am so sorry to hear of your father's passing. Many of us Cecil kids were talking about you today and were saddened to learn this. - Posted by: Tina Scowen (Friend of Lori) on: Jan 04, 2020

  • Missing you today and always❤️💛❤️ - Posted by: Ashley (Grandaughter ) on: Nov 13, 2016

  • My grandpa was the nicest, kindhearted person in world, he did everything for me. Was always willing to help out anyone at anytime of the day. He was well known in Weston as "gramps", known for his little robin egg blue Chevy s 10 and the ooga horn( model A horn). What I wouldn't do to get the 20 phone calls a day to go for a donut or the waking me to school and the following me around all over the city to make sure I was safe. I wish I could for donuts with you, I wish I could hear your voice again. Many times I wish you could be waiting for me to pick me up with the truck like you use to. I will always cherish the last memory of you as you sat in the hospital bed still not giving up moving your arm doing exercise and lifting your head to smell the flower, right to the end a caring loving grandpa. My grandpa, my Dad, my everything will miss you and love you forever till we meet again Love Ashley - Posted by: Ashley (Grandaughter) on: Sep 13, 2016
