ROBERT LAFORGE September 13, 1939 - September 6, 2015 After a seven month battle with heart failure, Bob passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2015 at Grace Hospital, at the age of 75 years. Bob retired from the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1985 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was a graduate of the Royal Military College in Kingston, Ontario in Aerospace and Chemical Engineering. Bob and Marion enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the world over the past 30 years, their time spent at their cottage on Poplar Bay and his award winning flower beds and gardens. Bob was a founding member of the Winnipeg Art Gallery and was an avid collector of art and antiques throughout his life. Bob will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Marion, and his family and friends. A Celebration of Bob's Life will be held on Friday, September 11, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Rae and Jerry's Steakhouse, 1405 Portage Avenue. • How surprused to hear of my old friend's husband passing. I have known Marion since grade 5 and moved away to Vancouver. I visited very infrequently but did meet her wonderful husband and saw their beautiful garden. It has been over 10 years since I saw her but always got postcards from all the wonderful places they have been to. I came to Winnipeg to celebrate my sister Linette Bell 50th wedding Anniversary. They got married September 11th, 1965. It was going to be a surprise on Saturday with people flying all over. Marion, my sister and her husband were at Rae and Jerry's on Friday with some of her family. I am so sorry Marion for your loss. If there is anything I can do please let me know. I know after losing my husband how hard it is to bear. Take care. - Posted by: Birgitta Soini (school friend of Marion) on: Sep 13, 2015

  • Bob and Marion bought the cottage next door to our parents, at Poplar Bay. And what great neighbours! Always friendly and supportive, we associate them with (initially) Bob's two big German shepherds and Marion's gorgeous gardens. Our parents loved to hear about their exciting travels to faraway places. We will remember Bob fondly. Our hearts go out to you, Marion. - Posted by: Kate (Essenburg) Frego (neighbours) on: Sep 11, 2015

  • My sincere sympathy to Marian and Bob's family. Bob's beautiful garden and warm smile are an important part of my Poplar Bay memories. He was a wonderful person who will be missed by many. - Posted by: Carol Essenburg (neighbour from Poplar Bay) on: Sep 11, 2015

  • We were frequent travel companions with Bob and Marion over the past 17 years. Bob was always a fun person to be around, he loved meeting mew people and stayed in contact with many of them afterward. He loved to tell stories about his experiences. We will miss him forever. - Posted by: David & Trudy Gordon (Cruise ship friends since 1998.) on: Sep 09, 2015
