Although I never met Rod, I am moved by the comments expressed by others. My father was Rod's uncle. Our families had lost touch when I was just a child so I don't have any memory of Rod. I am very sorry for not having the opportunity to get to know him and his family, he sounds like a wonderful man. My sincere condolences for your loss. You are in my thoughts. - Posted by: Christie Davies (Van Berkel) (cousin) on: Oct 04, 2015

As i heard the news i was in such denial....a man that taught me soo much and was soo healthy...as i was one who seen him, on several occasions; had just jogged to the school!! Pass away way too soon! My heart sunk in immediate saddeness...he was a favourite Instructor for sure, always on my mind ... and his endless stories of the "shit rats" will make me smile for years! Miss ya Chipping, see ya on the other side! - Posted by: Chantel Loveday (student (class of mainly 12-37)) on: Sep 18, 2015

I first met Rod in Northwest Law Enforcement Academy and he was such a great teacher! He was always great to listen too, and had so many stories that he shared with our class (Class 39). I will miss Rod and I wish the best to his friends and family. - Zach - Posted by: Zachery Mckie (Student) on: Sep 17, 2015

We were at a loss for words when we heard of Rod's passing. At his Celebration of Life we learned that through the course of the past 40 years we had also shared our lives with many of his friends. Rod was truly a good friend and the best neighbour anyone could ask for. He was always willing to lend a hand, offer advice, and share his opinions. We enjoyed every conversation and every laugh we had with him. Rod will never be forgotten. Our sincere condolences to Diane, Derek, Kelly, and family. Beautiful memories will keep him close and give us strength . - Posted by: The Radtke Family () on: Sep 16, 2015

I first met Rod on the job. (WPS) and (WAS) were always together? Rod stood tall on the street. He did the job right. We met again on the ice. Rod loved his hockey and added alot to our team. (The Fighting 13th). We miss you already. The family may call on any of us for help at any time. It was our honor to know him. God Speed and God Bless... I first got to know Rod many years ago while both members of the Winnipeg Police Service. We were both members of the traffic division at that time. Rod had a tremendous sense of humour but could also perform an admirable job when it came to his duties. Rod was one heck of a mechanic and I often remember him fixing my wife's Mustang as he was a Ford mechanic prior to joining the Service. It was a pleasure to have known and worked with you Rod over the many years. May you rest in Peace and my most sincere condolences to your Family. - Posted by: Rick Elgar (Co-Worker) on: Sep 11, 2015

We are still in a state of shock when we learned of his passing. He was a man full of energy, very fit and always on the go. As his neighbor, we always see him riding his bike, jogging and at times taking his gym bag to workout. Rod was a very good neighbor/friend to us. He helped us in so many ways. When we are looking for a car for our son back in 2007, we test drove a standard car and got stuck in the backstreet. He was the one who helped us to start the car. When our snow blower didn’t work in a -40 degree temperature, he taught us a trick. When our turbine was almost blown away by the strong wind, he helped us in putting up another one. In winter time, when the snow starts to fall we were surprised to see he already cleaned up the back lane including our own. There was a time when we had a terrible snow storm and we needed to go out. As soon as we pulled out of our garage, we got stuck and it was Rod who helped us in clearing the snow and we were able to leave. Few weeks ago, he came over and told us that there were free firewood from a street and he drove his truck with my husband to pick up the firewood for our own use. When we were about to leave to go to Lockport for dinner, he warned us of the severe thunderstorm warming and possible hail as he read it to us from the Weather Network website. We had a good chat with him when we invited him for a bbq party and was so proud to show us his grandchildren’s videos and photos. These are just a few examples of the many good things he did to us. You will truly be missed by our family Rod. Our deep and sincere condolences to your loving wife Diane, and the family. We will always include you in our prayers. So long our dear friend/neighbor. May your soul rest in peace.. - Posted by: Bobby and Lhai Kasala (Neighbor/Friend) on: Sep 11, 2015
