PETER JOHN MAZUR It is with great sadness that the family of Peter John Mazur of Winnipeg, MB, announces his passing on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at River East Personal Care Home at the age of 92. Peter was born June 25, 1923 in Brokenhead, MB. He grew up on the family farm of his parents, John and Kasika Mazur. Peter was one of 14 brothers and sisters. Peter left the farm at an early age to find work in the city. After working at various jobs, he began his career at CN Rail, where he worked for 36 years, until his retirement in 1984. Peter lived by straightforward principles; if you wanted something, you should be prepared to work for it. He also emphasized that working is a privilege and that every effort should be made to show up every day. Peter's favourite retirement activities were gardening, following sports, and going for long daily walks, which he continued to do as long as he was able, regardless of the weather. Walking was the activity he missed the most in his last few years when his mobility started to fade. Peter is survived by his wife Stella, of 67 years. They married in 1948. He leaves behind their five children, Elizabeth (Tom); Evelyn (Gerry), daughters, Jessica (Dave) and Jennifer; Myron (June); David (Joanna) and Stephanie and Kevin; Bernie (Carol) and Scott. He also leaves behind sisters, Anne and Nettie; brothers, Eddie, Steve, Harold and John, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Special thanks to longtime friend Cec Notley, for picking Peter up and making sure he got out on a regular basis when walking became difficult. Funeral service will be held on Sunday, September 13, 2015 at Wheeler Funeral Home, 1800 Day St. at 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
