CATHERINE ANNE LOCKIE (nee MACKAY) With deep sorrow the family announces the sudden passing of Catherine Lockie after a brief illness, on September 7, 2015. Cathy will be lovingly remembered by her son Rob Lockie; daughter-in-law Bev; and grandchildren Jonathan and Christina. She will also be deeply missed by her brother and sister-in-law Jim and Jeanette Lockie, as well as nieces, nephews and dear friends from Winnipeg and from her youth in Fort William (Thunder Bay), Ontario. Cathy was predeceased by her loving husband Bob in 2009, parents Alexander MacKay in 1955 and Catherine MacKay (nee MacDonald) in 2002, as well as sisters Joan, Henrietta, and brother Alastair. Cathy was born on March 14, 1936 in Fort William, Ontario. She was baptised and grew up as a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. The career she chose was nursing, and she trained at McKellar General Hospital after finishing high school. She worked there and at Western Hospital in Toronto after she completed her training. She met the love of her life, Bob Lockie, in Fort William in 1960, and they were married in 1962. They then moved to Bob's home town of Winnipeg. Their only child Rob was born in 1965. Cathy continued to work part-time as a nurse through the 1970's, 1980's and 1990's first at the (then) new Victoria General Hospital on Pembina Highway, and finally as a recovery nurse for an oral surgeon in the medical arts building. When Rob was young, though, she made sure she worked nights so she could always have lunch ready when he came home from school. Cathy loved going to the family cottage at Laclu, Ontario. She and Bob built a new cottage in 1980 and had many years of enjoyment from it; her last visit was in July of this year. Cathy was also an excellent cook, and loved providing great meals for her family, and trying new recipes she came across that she found interesting. A highlight for Cathy was her trips to Scotland, specifically to Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis where her parents had immigrated! from, and where her Aunt Christina MacDonald still lived. The first was with her mother and sister Henrietta in 1988, then with son Rob in 1990 (after a brief side trip to Inverness), then with both Rob and Bob in 1994. In later years after Bob's death Cathy maintained her independence staying in her house in Fort Richmond, continuing to shop, cook, and make special treats for Christina and Jonathan, the grandchildren she loved so dearly. It also became a ritual for her to come for Sunday dinner at Rob, Bev, Jonathan and Christina's house, usually bringing a dish or dessert to help out. Mom was a devoted wife and mother. Her family and friends were foremost in her life, especially her two beloved grandchildren. The family also wishes to specifically express gratitude to all of the healthcare professionals involved after Cathy was admitted to hospital, notably Dr. Adams, Dr. Taraska, and Dr. Penner and the rest of the staff on 5N at the Victoria, and Dr. Srinathan and the surgical team at HSC. The care, concern and compassion demonstrated during moms' stay will not be forgotten. Goodbye, Grandma we'll all miss you. "Gone to the lake with Dad...." In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the building restoration fund St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 207 Brodie Street S., Thunder Bay, Ontario, P7E 1C1
