JUDITH CORRINE MITCHELL With love and heavy hearts we announce that peacefully and on her own terms, Judith Corrine Mitchell (nee Willim) passed away at the Grace Hospital on Saturday, September 12, 2015. Beloved widow of Thomas Gordon Mitchell, loving and supportive mother to her daughter Michelle (Robert) and her son Gordon (Meloney) and devoted grandmother to her three amazing granddaughters, Carmen Lee, Mason Alexandra and Cassandra Lynn. Judy was born in Winnipeg, MB and was raised in the Brooklands / Weston neighbourhoods, where she would eventually meet and fall in love with her husband Tommy. After a brief career with Great West Life, they began their family and Judy found her calling as CEO, CFO, Office Manager, Head Chef, Custodian, part time psychologist, part time nurse and fulltime Homemaker for the Mitchell household - a posting at which she absolutely excelled and served for nearly 47 years. Judy was determined to make a difference in the lives around her and held the adage "It takes a village to raise a child" very near to her heart. So, while organizing a husband and household, raising two children, tending to her parents and caring for multiple family pets in the home, she dedicated literally thousands of volunteer hours to her community. Judy was deeply involved at Isaac Brock School, served in a multitude of roles at Isaac Brock Community Centre (Treasurer, Pres. Of the Ladies Aux., Canteen Co-ordinator, Secretary, Vice-President, etc...), gave endless hours to Midland Minor Hockey Association, put together so many awards dinners at IBCC, she became known as the "Banquet Lady" (what kid couldn't help but love a night of Chicken Delight, soggy fries, warm coleslaw and a trophy to take home!), and helped put together countless showers at the club for the community's daughters. On a side note, Judy was also known as a soft touch when working the canteen for any kid with a nickel in their pocket to score at least a quarter's worth of penny candy! Judy was deeply spiritual though not overly religious and always saw immense beauty in nature and the world around her. Though she never drove, she directed numerous memorable family camping expeditions throughout North America and instilled this love of nature not only in her children but in her grandchildren as well...special rocks, interesting bits of driftwood, cool shells and harrowing tales of wild chipmunks were always the expected souvenirs from any and all of us returning from the Great Outdoors. As her children began families of their own and blessed her with three gorgeous granddaughters, Judy's focus was directed to singlehandedly spoiling them rotten and to keeping Disney and Baby Gap in business and profitable...fittingly these two passions went hand in hand. Judy was predeceased by the love of her life Tommy; her brother John; and her parents, John and Corrine, but is survived and will always be loved and missed by her sister Maureen (Lloyd), sister Alexis (Fred), brother-in-law Bill (Margaret), sister-in-law Linda (Alex) and a wonderful horde of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews - all of whom she loved and appreciated to her very core. Surrounded by family near and far, a private interment ceremony will be held for Judy at Brookside Cemetery, where she will rest with her Tommy once again. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations be made in Judy's memory to the Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 9Z9 or to any other worthwhile cause of your choosing. "Hey Jude, don't make it bad, take a sad song and make it better...and anytime you feel the pain, hey Jude, refrain. Don't carry the world upon your shoulders" - Lennon and McCartney NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • Michelle, Gordon and families, I am deeply sorry to hear of the loss of your mom. I have very fond memories of "Mrs. Mitchell" and our childhood and teen years together. Our neighbourhood and community club was such a big part of our lives, from Isaac school, club dances, skating, baseball, baton and tap dancing, I specifically remember her helping us with our costumes for pictures and recitals when really young! Deepest sympathies from the Squires Family. - Posted by: Bonnie Squires (Friend) on: Nov 27, 2015

  • Michelle, Robert and family. I was saddened to hear of your mom's passing only yesterday. Jude was an awesome lady who gave freely of herself to all of us around her. Having lost my dad a year and a half ago, I appreciate the huge void that losing a parent causes. Keep your memories close...they will comfort you in the months ahead.
