Born: Feb 14, 1935
Date of Passing: Sep 12, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGORDON EDGAR DEVINS It is with great sadness we announce the sudden and tragic passing of Ed Devins on September 12, 2015. He is survived by his wife Marjorie, daughter Bev Richards (Bill), grandson Tyler (Jazmin), son Jack (Nancy), granddaughters Meghan and Kiara, and two beautiful great-granddaughters Avery and Claire. Also survived by sister Valerie McRae (George), Ottawa; brothers Ferg (Betty), Souris, Manitoba, and Bill (Faye), Kenora, and several nieces and nephews. Dad was our Valentines Baby born February 14, 1935 in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. The Devins family then moved to Souris, Manitoba in 1942 where he grew up diving off the swinging bridge, playing baseball and hockey. In 1955 he followed big brother Bill to Kenora to work on the C.P.R. and play hockey for the Kenora Thistle Hockey Club. His involvement in the game of hockey and the community became a life long commitment. In 2014 he was recognized for his contributions to the game by Canadian Tire Hockey Heroes of Play. Dad continued the family legacy by becoming a Free Mason, as the Masonic Order was also a large part of Ed's life having belonged to numerous branches of Masonry. He was very proud to be a Mason and very well respected throughout the provinces of Ontario and Manitoba. With hockey and masonry being Ed's enjoyment through his life, he was very, very humble. If you knew Ed you would know how true this is. He formed many friendships through business and volunteerism over the years - always enjoyed people dropping by for a chat. He was a quiet, gentle man - rest in peace Dad. Cremation has taken place. Celebration of Life will be held at the Knox United Church, 116 5th Avenue S., Kenora on Friday, September 18, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. followed by a light luncheon. The family asks that anyone attending the Celebration of Life please refrain from wearing any perfumes or scents. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kenora Minor Hockey League, P.O. Box 381, Kenora, Ontario or Lake of the Woods Girls Hockey League, 528 Lake Street, Keewatin, Ontario P0X 1C0.
