DONALD LEWIS JAMES It is with profound sadness that the family announces the passing of Donald Lewis James on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at the Victoria General Hospital in Winnipeg, MB. Although we mourn his death we celebrate his long and productive life. Donald is lovingly remembered by his children Linda Selig (Ron), Larry James (Anke), Diane Frohwerk (Al), Janice Boissonneault (Bernie), Cathy James (Billy), Carol James (John); grandchildren, Ashley and Michael, John and Jeff, Jennifer and Kim, Adam and Kyle, Lucas and Sydney; great-grandchildren, Isis, Jacob and Rowan; sister Maureen Lowe (George); brotherin-law Eric Sly (Maureen); sisters-in-law Wilma Marsch, Shirley Osborne and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Thelma in 2004 as well as brothers-in-law Raymond Sly, Elwood Sly, Jim Osborne and most recently Walter Marsch; sisters-in-law Hazel Smith and Florence Coullard. Don was born on March 4, 1930 to Florence and Lewis James. He worked for the CPR Railways for 40 years as a shop foreman. Upon retirement he was able to spend his time enjoying his many passions. He was an accomplished long distance runner, with three back to back first place Calgary Marathons in his teens, to multiple completions of the Boston Marathons. He completed his last full marathon at the age of 69 and ran until his late 70's. He loved fishing, bowling, chess, golf, curling and painting. He spent many hours playing cards with his family and his incredible sense of humour was always on point. He will be greatly missed. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, September 18 at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Interment to follow in St. Vital City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society. "My father didn't tell me how to live. He lived, and let me watch him do it."
