ALICE FLECK (nee SINGLETON) November 22, 1941 September 9, 2015 With her family at her side, Alice lost her 17 year battle with cancer. She leaves to mourn her passing, her loving husband of 56 years, Glen, her son Rick and daughter Kathy (Larry) Olson; her grandson Chris (Heather) Olson and great grandbaby to be, and her granddaughter Cara (Harrison) Olson. Her honorary granddaughters Jenn, Jessie and Amy. She also leaves to mourn her passing her mother Edna May; her sisters Evelyn, Ruth (Bob), Susan (Bob), and brother Stan. Sisters-in-law Betty and Helen, brother-in-law Stu (Henny), and many other relatives and friends too numerous to mention. She was predeceased by her beloved daughter Lori and her father George. Alice was born and raised in Winnipeg. As a child she loved spending time at her grandparent's farm, and especially loved her time with her Aunty Ethel. It was through her job at Du-Rite Cleaners that she met the love of her life, Glen. They married and started a family together in April 1959. Alice has always been someone who never let anything stop her from achieving a goal. If she put her mind to it, she not only accomplished it but succeeded. She not only sold Tupperware, but became a very successful Manager of the Lamplighters. She loved to ski and even became a ski instructor and taught both of her grandchildren to ski. She was also a passionate golfer. She has always had a love of sewing, and made most of her grandchildren's clothes, as well as her granddaughter's graduation dress; but she truly found her love when she discovered quilting. Her first project was her grandson's duck quilt and would eventually make a quilt for all her children, grandchildren, and even for her great-grandchildren to-be. She has made special wall hangings and one of her final quilts will grace the walls at CancerCare thanks to the help of some very good friends. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, great friend, volunteer, Queen Mother of the Bodacious Boas but most importantly a caring and loving woman who will be missed. The family would like to thank all her doctors, nurses and care givers over the years from CancerCare Manitoba and Palliative Care as well as her family physician Dr. MacMillan. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 21 at 2:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St.. In lieu of flowers, we ask that a donation in her name be made to Lung Cancer Manitoba. Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • Alice was my rock, and never failed to remind me that although I live far away, I am still a member of the family & not forgotten. We shared life stories, recipes, and quilting patterns. Even though she was allergic to cats, she still house sit for ours when we travelled to Calgary (where we eventually bought a home). She was generous to a fault, and I miss her all the time. - Posted by: Susan MacKenzie (Sister) on: Sep 15, 2018

  • Alice was such a nice, kind lady. I only worked with her for a short period at the bank, however in that time she made a real impact on me. She was one of the most positive people I have known. She will be missed by everyone who knew her. My condolences go out to her family. I am so sorry for your loss. She is in a place where she is not in pain anymore. - Posted by: Nicole Clairmont (Former Co Worker) on: Sep 23, 2015

  • I remember meeting this sweet soft lady way back in the Tupperware days...we stayed in contact when we could ..and there she was working in the bank I dealt with. We had a lot of memories to catch up on and share....as time went by we lost track of each other again when she stopped working for the bank due to her illness...we chatted from time to time.....I would like to send my sincere sympathy to Alice's family......she is shining down upon us and now free from pain. - Posted by: Carole patterson (Friend) on: Sep 22, 2015

  • Alice, I only knew you a short time, but I enjoyed every minute we spent together quilting. I admired your strength and courage when you came to the quilting day at the Summer Kitchen at Grand Marais at the end of June. We loved your story about finding out about your grandbaby due in December, and were hoping that you could remain strong enough to be there for the baby's arrival. You will always be a Sewl Sister, and the Sewl Sisters will always remember you. Thank You for the extra hard squeeze when we last hugged. • Alice you were my great friend. I will miss your chats, advice and support. You fought a long hard battle and now it's time to rest in peace. You said I was your rock but you were my rock also. Rest in peace my dear friend. Love Joanne Cohoe - Posted by: Joanne Cohoe (Friend) on: Sep 19, 2015
