LORNA LOUISA BRUCE (nee FREAKES) After a brief illness, Lorna Louisa Bruce passed away on September 16, 2015. Lorna was born to George and Harriet Freakes on November 27, 1922 in the south of England. Stricken with rheumatic fever as a child, she missed her first two years of school. She grew into womanhood at the start of the Second World War. She worked in an aircraft repair facility maintaining war planes, as many young women did at that time. She met Robert, a Canadian soldier whom she wed in 1945. After war's end, Lorna immigrated to Canada on the Queen Mary with hundreds of other war brides. She spent a short time in rural Saskatchewan, and then settled in Winnipeg where her first son Robert was born in 1946. A second son, Donald followed in 1947. She was a stay at home mom for six years but due to post war hardship, took a position in a sewing factory. In spite of having to work full-time, it did not prevent her from being a wonderful, loving mother. As time passed, she was blessed with two grandchildren, Jason and Lindley, who have many fond memories of special times with Granny and Grampa. Lorna was predeceased by her loving husband Robert of 70 years; daughter-in-law Heather; brother David; sisters-in-law, Ella and Phyllis (Mel); as well as her beloved parents, George Allan and Harriet Louise Freakes. She is survived by her loving family, sons, Robert (Maida) and Donald; grandchildren, Jason and Lindley; niece Arlene and her family, along with special family friend Derek Watt, who knew Lorna most of his life. She will also be missed by her paternal and maternal family, brother Mel and family in England and sister Audrey and family in New Zealand. Special thank you to the staff and management of Golden Door Geriatric Centre and Seven Oaks General Hospital for their most considerate, compassionate and thoughtful care of our mother. "The most loving, humble and selfless person that ever lived."
