DOROTHY ANNIE GATES (nee DELONG) Dorothy Annie Gates (nee DeLong) passed away peacefully on September 19, 2015 at Middlechurch Personal Care Home. Dorothy will be lovingly remembered by her family. She is survived by her children: David (Valerie) Gates of Inwood, MB, Allan (Debbie) Gates of Haywood, MB, Beverley (Gary) Taylor of Hartford, SD, her son-in-law Allan Wetton of Winnipeg, MB, her grandchildren: Michael, Jonathan, Steve, Michelle, Beckie and Chadrick. Great-grandchildren Callen, Coral, Allison, Benjamin, Lukas and many nieces and nephews. Dorothy was born March 12, 1924 in Martinon, New Brunswick to Leonard and Pearl DeLong. She was the youngest of five children and the only girl in the family. Dorothy was united in marriage at St. George Anglican Church, Saint John, New Brunswick on August 12, 1944 to George Eldon Gates of Saint John, New Brunswick. Many changes were in store for George and Dot when George accepted a transfer to Winnipeg in 1949 with CNR. Dorothy loved to knit and kept her family warm with handmade mittens, hats and afghans. She taught both of her daughters to sew at an early age. Dorothy also experimented with ceramics and took classes with her daughters for several years. Dorothy loved to bake Christmas dainties by the dozen to prepare for the holidays. Dorothy was predeceased by: her parents, her husband George, her brothers Kenneth, Hazen, Russell and Paul as well as her daughter Jill. Funeral services to be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., Friday October 2 at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow.
