JOHN (JACK) FORSYTH After a short illness we announce the death of our beloved husband, father and grandfather on September 20, 2015 at Melfort Hospital, SK. He will be remembered by his wife Irma (Evenson), his son Bruce (Irene) of Winnipeg, daughter Allison (Jerome) of Kenora, granddaughter Julie (Kent) of Sioux Lookout, Ontario, three great-grandchildren and sisters Lorna and Betty. He was predeceased by first wife Leona, son Mark, grandson Carlin, and sisters Margaret, Helen, Dorothy and Janet. Jack was born May 16, 1929 near Kinistino, Saskatchewan, an only son with 6 sisters. He grew up and worked on the family farm, learned how to drive a team of horses, and hunted for the family table. In October 1955 Jack and Leona were married and moved to Winnipeg in the spring of 1956. In 1989 they purchased a tourist lodge in Nestor Falls with Allison and her partner Glen. The lodge was sold in 1994 but Leona and Jack continued to live in Nestor Falls until 2000 when they moved to Landmark, Manitoba. After Leona passed away in 2007, Jack met Irma at a relative's wedding in Melfort, SK and a new romance bloomed. In 2008 they were married in Melfort where Jack resided until his death. Jack worked a number of jobs over his life, his ability to troubleshoot and repair machinery always kept him employed. After the children left home he was able to tour North America with Leona by motorcycle. He tinkered with electronics and later enjoyed a passion for fishing. Jack was also an expert story and joke teller, entertaining relatives and friends with tales of growing up on the farm. Later in life his "Thin Bread" song was a hit at family gatherings. A celebration of Jack's life will take place at Melfort Evangelical Covenant Church on October 15 at 2:00 p.m., followed by a reception. Cremation has taken place and his ashes will be interred at Kinistino Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a donation in his memory to the Alzheimer Society of Canada will be appreciated.
