NORMAN YURMAN On September 20, 2015, with his family at his side, Norman Yurman passed away peacefully at the age of 89. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Hedva, his daughters, Tamar, Ayah (David), and Mimi (Lindsey), his grandson, Zac, his nephews, Ron (Anita) and Isaac (Judy), his nieces, Chana (Michael) and Gail (Rueben), his Moser family members, Kathy (Jeff), Meita (Chris), Mark, and the children of the extended families. Norman was a kind, gentle man, a devoted husband, father and friend. He was a skilled horologist and jeweler for over 40 years. And true to his craft, Norman had the patience of a watchmaker. He was the constant in the lives of many, and considered family his treasured jewels. Sadly, only four months ago, Norman was predeceased by his older brother, Shlomo, whom he had cherished. Decades earlier, Norman was predeceased by his sisters Toni, Rivka and Freda; mother, Esther, and father, Itzchak. At 61 Norman met the love of his life, Hedva, the woman who would make him a proud husband and father to her three daughters. At 65, Norman and Hedva married, and for the next (almost) 25 years, he provided a loving home for "his girls". We will miss you, Norman! The family wishes to thank Rabbi Lander; the pallbearers: Zac Corne, Lindsey Corne, Ron Yurman, Isaac Thau, Reuben Potash and Neil Symonds; Norman's compassionate and caring home care staff: Conrad, Germa and Michael; as well as the exceptional staff and doctors of the Emergency and 5th floor of the Victoria Hospital. A graveside funeral was held on September 21, 2015 at the Rosh Pina Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • I never knew a better man than Norman, he was my husband David's best friend and I grew to appreciate him and Hedva as friends as well. Until we all meet again....shalom, and God bless Israel. - Posted by: joan gerus (friend) on: Oct 06, 2015

  • I will always remember visiting the jewelry shop with my Dad (They were great friends) when I was a kid. Norman would always stop what he was doing to welcome me to the store or call me over excitedly to show me some great treasure he was working on. In his soft spoken voice he would explain the importance of caring for the treasures he created and fixed; taught me that it's not the value in the physical that's important but rather what it stands for on a personal level that really matters. Not many of your parents' friends make an impression on you as a kid the way "Mr. Yurman" did for me... I will miss my friend. - Posted by: Clint Gerus (Family Friend) on: Oct 05, 2015

  • Norman was a wonderful man, kind, patient and generous with his time. He designed many bespoke pieces, of jewellery, for family members pieces we will cherish always. (Gem o' Love YUR) Many conversations were held at both his Fort St and Henderson Hwy shops. He was a great conversationalist and shared many stories about his life and his family, he was a devoted brother to his siblings. We were all so happy for him when he met Hedva and a new family was formed. Deepest condolences and respect to Hedva and family. - Posted by: Max, Janet, Brad, Maxine and Juliette (Friend) on: Oct 04, 2015

  • My husband & I knew Norman for years since my father was a jeweller for years. Lorne always bought my jewelry from Norman when he had Royal Jewelry. In fact I have few pieces he made for me. He was a very gentle quiet man and we enjoyed visiting him at his shop. I'm so sorry to hear of his passing and offer my Sympathy to his wife and family.IY - Posted by: Irene McGhie (Friend) on: Oct 04, 2015
