JEAN JOHNSON (nee TORELL) Peacefully, at the age of 92 years, on Friday, October 2, 2015 at Grace Hospital, after a brief illness, Jean Johnson passed on to eternal life with our Lord. Jean is survived by her son, Nathan Johnson (Eva); daughters, Rebekah Johnson (Lewis Mazzie), Deborah Johnson, Rachel Johnson (Dale Conrad), and Naomi Granke (Gary); stepdaughters, Sheila Johnson (James) and Julie Barth (Geoffrey); grandchildren Carl and Reid Granke; as well as Paul, Beth and Tim Johnson. She was predeceased by her first husband Rev. Donald Johnson; son Reuel; and her second husband Charles Raine. Since 1971, Jean resided in Winnipeg. She was born in Springfield, MA. She attended nursing school at Harford Hospital. Jean served as an RN with the US Army Corps during the Second World War. Jean and her husband Donald served three terms as Lutheran Missionaries in Tanzania. Most recently, she worked as an operating room nurse at Grace Hospital until her retirement in 1988. Jean loved life, and lived life to the fullest. She was always an active member of the Lutheran Church. She lived her faith by serving others. She enjoyed singing in the church choir, playing the hand bells, and volunteering in various capacities. On Wednesday, October 7, 2015 Jean's Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. in Messiah Lutheran Church, 400 Rouge Road with Pastor Carol Janke, presider Special thanks to the Grace Hospital staff of 3North and to Dr. A. Sharma for the wonderful care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Canadian Lutheran World Relief, Grandmothers to Grandmothers Stephen Lewis Foundation, or Messiah Lutheran Church Fund.
