Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySTANLEY GEORGE HIEBERT May 19, 1944 - October 3, 2015 It is with heavy hearts that we must say good bye to Stanley George Hiebert. Stan passed away after a two year struggle with cancer. Born just outside Steinbach to George and Jessie Hiebert, Stan spent his life in Manitoba, refusing to leave the bracing cold, even when his family uprooted and trundled off to warmer Abbotsford. Stan moved to Winnipeg instead to go to university. Good thing he did for it was here he met his wife of 42 years. Stan worked as a teacher for a few short years, followed by over 20 years in warehouses as a forklift operator and supervisor. Stan had a fantastic sense of humour, which he passed on to his three sons. He was immensely proud of his sons and loved telling everyone of their achievements. A perpetual curmudgeon, he could often be found riding his bike, feeding the geese, yelling at the neighbourhood dogs, complaining about the weather, and collecting items of minimal value. He loved travelling, despite the fuss he always made, Linda always convinced him he'd have a good time, and he always did. Stan loved playing games of all kinds and had a very competitive streak. A massive sports fan, he was often found watching the Jets, the Habs, the Bombers and the Yankees, sometimes two at the same time. He was a long time member of Young United Church and made his famous hamburgers in tomato sauce for all the potlucks and rummage sales. More recently Stan and Linda joined the Winnipeg Robert Burns Club where he was able to combine his love of eating with his love of poetry. He is survived by his wife Linda, sons Mark (wife Delany Parkinson), Matt, and Tim; sister Linda (husband Corny Dyck, son Corey (Rebecca)); brothers-in-law Ted Wilson and Brian Wilson (wife Beth, sons David (Natalie and Emily), Tom (Kirsti), and Rob). He was predeceased by his parents, George and Jessie Hiebert, his in-laws, Ronald and Hildur Wilson, and his best friend David Samlalsingh. A memorial service will be held at Young United Church Thursday, October 8 at 3:00 p.m. with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Young United Church, 100-222 Furby Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 2A7, or to West Broadway Community Services, www. westbroadwaycm.org

My sincere sympathy to Linda, Mark & Delaney, Matthew, Tim, the Wilson and Hiebert families. Stan was a great person, friendly, humorous and resilient. He had a good life. Regrets I am not able to be at the funeral. Love to all - Posted by: Louise Schabert (Cousin) on: Oct 08, 2015

As a kid, Stan and I played together almost everyday. I will never forget these memories. We list touch when they moved away, but years later I did meet him occasionally at a Jets hockey game, former Jets not current. He was always fun to be with. Rest in peace. - Posted by: Larry Kehler (Next door neighbour in Randolph Manitoba) on: Oct 07, 2015

It is often too late that we realize we should have made more effort to stay in touch with relatives and friends. When I read this obituary, I realize how much he and Bert would have had in common. I am sorry that we won't get that visit with Stanley that we promised to have when we got back from Australia, but much more sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Judy Bartel (Cousin) on: Oct 06, 2015

Stan was an easy going individual, who rarely missed a Club meeting held each third week of the Month from October thru April of each year. As the Club President, I must say that he will be missed as a valued member...his attitude and easy going personality made him one of a kind. May he rest in peace, he has suffered enough... - Posted by: Charles H. Cameron CD (Member of the Robert Burns Club of Winnipeg where He and Linda were Members in good standing.) on: Oct 06, 2015

So sorry to hear of your loss Linda and family. We always enjoyed your visits to the coast, the last one being about a year ago. Stan was a very entertaining fellow and I am sure his humour will be missed by many. - Posted by: Marion and Jim Appleby (Cousins) on: Oct 06, 2015
