Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHNNIE E. DERKSEN After a short illness, John Derksen, aged 89 years, originally of Horndean, MB passed away on October 6, 2015 at Deer Lodge Centre. He is survived by his two sons, Barry of Winnipeg and Roy (Deborah) of Pine Falls, MB; one daughter Yvonne (John) Burman; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister Elma of Vancouver, BC. He was predeceased by his wife Orise (Roy) in 2004 and his parents, David D. and Anne Derksen; as well as sisters, Helen and Edna, and brothers, David H. (Sue) and Herb (Elsie). Dad was born on March 20, 1926 in the Plum Coulee district and resided in the Horndean area during his formative years. He had a wide variety of careers throughout his life, all taking advantage of his honed social skills. He joined the Navy and served overseas during the Second World War and was a member of the Elmwood Legion. He married Orise on March 17, 1951 and eventually settled in Transcona where they raised their family. Dad had many good people looking out for him at his favourite haunts where they would graciously set aside a Club "off" just for him. Cremation has taken place. A private family gathering will be held at a later date. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Deer Lodge Centre for their kindness and patience during Dad's residency. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Manitoba Lung Association, 301 - 1 Wesley Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4C6.
