Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM RONALD DAWES August 31, 1939 - Winnipeg, Manitoba October 3, 2015 - Okotoks, Alberta William, beloved husband of Caroline of Calgary, AB, passed away on October 3, 2015 at the age of 76 years. Growing up in Winnipeg, Dad was an adventurer at heart who loved camping, fishing, and getting out on the big, open road, having traveled to many parts of Canada, the U.S. and Europe. He collected Painted Ponies and always had a good book on the go. His work career spanned half a century, including his first 37 years in Winnipeg with Air Canada, the Winnipeg Police Force and Xerox. After moving to Calgary in 1976, he worked at Eaton's Contract Sales, and finally, Dawes Marketing Agency, where he was self-employed for nearly two decades. In retirement, he worked at his community Esso. Bill also had many friends, and was known amongst them for his wit, insights and late-night Canasta rivalries. Family was a source of enormous pride - his children and their spouses, all successful business owners (Blind Designs, AdFarm, and Jeffrey C. Dawes, Plastic and Dermatologic Surgery); and his nine grandchildren, excelling as students, athletes, dancers, musicians, and young learners. Bill's greatest adventure, however, was his lifelong journey with Carol. There were peaks and valleys, high-speeds and sudden stops. Together, they experienced it all. And, tethered firmly to family and Southwood United Church, they landed to a place of love, heartfelt commitment and gratitude for a life well-lived. A special thank you to Dr. Christo Rabie and the Foothills Country Hospice in Okotoks. In living memory of William Dawes, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes. Bill is survived by his wife Carol, the love of his life for 55 years; and his three children, Joanne (Don Baran) of Winnipeg, Glenn (Cheryl Dawes) of Calgary, and Jeff (Robyn Dawes) of Calgary. His grandchildren include Jessica (Ryan) of Winnipeg; Lisa of Vancouver; Miah of Provo, Utah; and Anais, Sebastian, Devan, Callie, Nash and Charlotte, all of Calgary. He was predeceased by his father William Dawes in 1988; his mother Hettie Dawes in 2007; and his brother Jim in 1992. Funeral Services will be held at Southwood United Church (10690 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Friday, October 9, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. Charitable donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, 1331 29 Street NW, Calgary, Alberta, T2N 4N2.
