GEORGE ALEXANDER JAMES HENDERSON With his family by his side Jim passed away on Monday, October 5, 2015, at the age of 71, at Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach, MB. He was born in Homewood, MB on January 4, 1944 to George and Agnes Henderson and grew up in Manitou, MB. Jim was predeceased by his mother, father, stepmother Clara, and second stepmother Gertie McAulay. He will be remembered and sadly missed by his partner Iris Kornelsen and her family, his siblings Donna (Don) Black, Lindsay (Janice), David (Janis), their families, and by his numerous cousins. Jim was a small town boy at heart and that love for rural life never left him. He was always proud of his roots in Manitou and the surrounding area. Jim was called to the bar in 1971 practicing law briefly in Steinbach then moving on to explore other business ventures in Alberta and Ontario. In 1994, at the age of 50, he decided to return to law and chose to come back to Steinbach where he said he had always been happiest. He became a partner at Loewen Henderson Banman Legault LLP in 2004. As a 71-year-old he was still working full time balancing his love for law with his love for golf and spending time in Arizona with Iris. He loved practicing law and was a force to be reckoned with. Many of Jim's clients and assistants were his protégés and became like children to him in which he took great pride. He was a mentor with a wealth of knowledge he generously shared with business people throughout the community. Anyone who met Jim would not soon forget him hence the extensive and eclectic circle of friends he'd collected from far and wide. He was a great storyteller and embellisher but he was also a very good listener. He was curious about everyone and everything and he was generous with his time, money, advice and expertise. Jim was a no nonsense kind of guy who didn't mince words and told it like it was often with a few colourful expletives thrown in just to get his point across. He was a passionate golfer and never missed an opportunity for a game or a golf trip. As much as Jim loved Mesa for extending his golf season he and Iris also enjoyed socializing with their large circle of friends who flocked there. Whether it was golf, happy hour or an impromptu dinner party, nothing gave him more pleasure than making sure everyone was having the best time possible. There are no words to express the hole Jim's passing has left in our hearts and our community, he will be greatly missed. Iris and the family would like to thank their many close friends and also the staff at Loewen Henderson Banman Legault who were such a support and comfort to both Jim and Iris during his illness. The family wishes to express their thanks and appreciation to the staff of the Bethesda Hospital and CancerCare Manitoba. Cremation has taken place and in keeping with Jim's wishes no funeral service will take place. **I Fear Neither Man Nor Beast However I Have Great Concern Over An 18 Inch Putt For Par**

  • I remember the summer weekends when we were kids, coming to town and meeting up with Jim. We would go and hide in a back lane and sneak a cigarette every hour or so. Then we would go the restaurant and have a coke to drink. Mondays we would be back to work, strictly business! Miss you Jim. - Posted by: Bill Henderson (cousin) on: Oct 12, 2015

  • Gim was a great cousin and friend. I have great child memories and adult memories of Jim. I remember golfing with Jim when he first returned to Steinbach. He had a smile on his face and whistling. - Posted by: george , marlies henderson (cousins) on: Oct 12, 2015
