Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARGARET JEAN LANCASTER It is with great sorrow that the family announces that Margaret Jean Lancaster passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at the Concordia Hospital in Winnipeg. Jean was born in Aspatria, Cumberland, England on May 8, 1927 and came to Canada with her family in 1929. She grew up on Atlantic Avenue and was very proud of her North Winnipeg heritage and the lifetime circle of friends that she made there. She received her education at Luxton School and St. John's High School in Winnipeg and as a young lady was employed for several years at the Bay downtown. Her government career commenced with the dietary department of Deer Lodge Hospital before she transferred in 1954 to the Armed Forces where she was employed until her retirement in 1992. Throughout her long, full life, Jean enjoyed visiting family and friends, spending time with her brother and his family at Brereton Lake and for many summers, with her sister Nora at their cottage at Winnipeg Beach. Jean took great joy in mastering various crafts, especially those involving Christmas and family birthdays. When you received an intricate "work of art" at Christmas or a specially wrapped present from Jean, it was always hand-made and displayed the great love she had for family and friends. Jean was predeceased by her parents Thomas and Elizabeth Hannah Lancaster; her brothers Thomas and William Lancaster; her sister Nora Taylor; her nephew Ronald Lancaster as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins in Canada and England. In any small family, all aunts and uncles are very special, but Jean's infectious laugh and great story-telling skills will be lovingly cherished and remembered by her nephew Gordon Lancaster, wife Gabrielle and their daughters Tracy and Krista of Vancouver, Ann Lancaster and her son Scott and wife Jennifer and their sons Mason and Blake of Winnipeg. At Jean's request, there will be no service and a private family interment.

As children, my sisters & I were blessed with having "Auntie Jean" in our lives. She was a witty, humerous, sophisticated, fun loving honourary Aunt. Whenever she came over lots of fun magically happened. For my 18th birthday "Auntie Jean" took me & my sisters (Laurie & Kathi) to the horse races at Assiniboin Downs. We had a GREAT time and I managed to win big on a long shot - $142 total winnings. We had many laughs about that!! My family will remember her for her wonderful heartfelt stories of growing up with my Mom (Ruth), her stories about her travels and her kindness in all aspects of her life. We are glad she was able to come to my Father's 91st birthday dinner this past August 6th. She was a wonderful lady and we will miss her immensely. When I heard she had passed away I immediately pictured her & my mom walking together arm in arm and laughing. We love you Auntie Jean. - Posted by: Rena Greenwood (Daughter of the late Ruth Robson Auntie Jean's lifelong friend) on: Oct 14, 2015

I was so sorry to read of Jean's passing. It was so wonderful to see her in August when her family brought her into the store. Jean and Nora were regular visitors to the store when they owned their Winnipeg Beach cottage and it was always a pleasure to wait on them. I always loved Jean's no nonsense attitude and I too enjoyed her story-telling. It was a pleasure to know Jean. May she rest in peace. - Posted by: Kelly Lewis (Owner Packers Fashion) on: Oct 13, 2015

Jean was the first person I met on my way to my 1st day of work as a single parent because she came out of her way to pick me up and bring me home each day for many months till I obtained my own car. Not sure I ever told her how grateful I was grateful I was to her for that. Later on my future husband came to work with us on the base and he and I have many memories of her and her wonderful sense of humour and great stories that only she could tell. Although we haven't seen her for many years we thought of her often and always hoped she was well. Rest in peace Jean Yours friends Pat and Eric Waatainen - Posted by: Pat and Eric Wastainen () on: Oct 10, 2015

Jean & I became friends when we met at Deer Lodge Hospital. We have kept in touch for all these years. She came to visit us in Greece where we were posted and shared a room with our four year old daughter Susan. Jean regaled Susan with tales from her imagination which captivated Susan. Jean enjoyed the Murdock Mystery TV shows and I was delighted that she would be enjoying the new series now, but that was not to be. I will miss her phoning on my birthday. Love you Jean. - Posted by: Pat Woodford (Friend from Deer Lodge Hospital days) on: Oct 10, 2015
