MARIE GONIS September 5, 1928 - October 7, 2015 Mrs. Marie Gonis, our lovely mom, of 87 years passed away peacefully on October 7, 2015 with her family at her side. She was predeceased by our dad, Mr. Joseph Gonis in 1991. Marie was born and raised in Silver, Manitoba, the first of seven to Josephine and Peter Melnychuk. Marie and Joe married in 1950 in Winnipeg and moved to Flin Flon where they started their family, moving to Calgary in 1960. Mom was a keen member of the U.C.W.L. and the St. Stephen Choir, as well as an enthusiastic Stamps season ticket holder and dedicated Flames fan. Marie is survived by her five children Geraldine (Sam) of Toronto, Greg (Lori) and Glenn of Calgary, George (Laura) of Ottawa and Garry (Lynn) of Banff; grandchildren Mike, Jon, Jeff (Angie), Christie, Luke, Andrew (Emily), Carolyn and David. She was Auntie Marie to Barney, Cindy, Valdine, Jim, Carl, Barb, Brenda, Elizabeth, Ian, Jan and Holly. She was predeceased by her brothers Daniel and Lawrence, and is survived by her brothers Mike (Tilly) and Norm (Sharon), and sisters Vickie and Margaret. We wish to express our gratitude to the very compassionate staff in Rockyview Hospital, and those in unit 73 who gave exceptional care to Marie and to us. Thanks also to Fr. Paulos. Funeral Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Stephen Protomartyr Ukrainian Catholic Church (4903-45 Street SW) on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. with The Very Rev. Mark A. Bayrock, Celebrant.
